Playing as anyone within the Iron Throne is a pain due to constant nobodies from the Stepstones raiding the kingdoms all the damn time. Now the raids themselves aren't so bad, but the fact that the King is constantly and personally responding (rather than the local High Lord or Lord Paramount) and putting himself into debt/disfavor with his vassals because of the penalty from raised levies is a pain. Especially if you get appointed a commander and end up on constant field duty (having no heirs because of the penalty) hunting down minor pirate bands.

I get that raiding adds immersion but at the current levels its just hurting gameplay. And until the AI can be modded to be more measured/local in its response, I think that the pirates need to be toned down.

Reactions:
Perhaps raiding by Pirates should be handled as a Province modified on the province being raided while it generates a bonus for the raiding party in question.
Obviously there should be options to counter this raiding.

Countering raiding is the only time retinues would be used fairly in this mod not gonna lie. (Which is mostly how I use them in the main game too until I get to insane levels where I can have huge retinues)

Seriously, I find that unless I'm the top level liege, the mod is unplayable as a Lord Paramount or Big Lord. Some pirate hits the Arbour and the armies of the Vale, the North and the Westerlands are mustered and left in place for years while money is wasted.

Well, that´s not problem of raiders, but of stupid CK2 AI, which considers 150 guys raiding vassal of vassal´s vassal worth raising every man in the realm.

Is there a quick way to turn raiding off until the devs square this shit away?

Yes, its ultimately an AI problem. But its being triggered by raids, which are easier to fix than CKII's fickle AI from my understanding.

Go to the religions file and remove all 'allow_looting = yes' lines. That would disable the raiding mechanic for everyone. (Alternatively you could as do this with only the pirate religion if it'sonly them causing troubles)
