This book started by humble me, Maester Ryam will story of House Blackbird of Castamere.
In year 261 AC lord of Castamere - Roger Reyne, called The Red Lion and lord of Tarbeck Hall - Walderan Tarbeck started Reyne-Tarbeck Rebellion against their overlords - House Lannister of Casterly Rock. This rebellion was crushed by Tywin Lannister-son and heir of current Lord Paramount of Westerlands, Warden of the West - Tytos the Tothless Lion. Tarbeck Hall was the first to feel Tywin's wrath and House Tarbeck was exterminated, including Ellyn. After an unsuccessful battle against the Lannister host led by Tywin, Ser Reynard and the wounded Lord Roger took refuge in the mines underneath Castamere. Reynard, once his folk were safe, offered terms to Tywin. Instead Tywin ordered the sealing of Castamere's entrances and the diverting of nearby water into the mine, causing the deaths of all within. It isnpired well know song Rains of Castamere:
And who are you, the proud lord said, that I must bow so low? Only a cat of a different coat, that’s all the truth I know. In a coat of gold or a coat of red, a lion still has claws, And mine are long and sharp, my lord, as long and sharp as yours. And so he spoke, and so he spoke, that lord of Castamere, But now the rains weep o’er his hall, with no one there to hear. Yes now the rains weep o’er his hall, and not a soul to hear.
After that halls of Tarbeck Hall and Castamere stood empty until year 265AC, when this book starts. When Tywin Lannister was preforming his duties as Hand of the King in King's Landing one of Casterly Rock courtiers achieved obtaining lands of High Lordship of Castemere. His name was Harrock and he decided that his House name will be called Blacbird with House Words sounding: "Rains are Dead!". Herrock chose such a coat of arms: "Per gules, blackbird proper"
