I've got a pentium 4 with 2.8 ghz and 512mb ram and win xp.
the game occasionally completely crashes when playing as certain nations. it usually seems to happen at the same time and so far with me its occurred whilst playing as both Prussia and Japan. When you get to a certain time the screen goes black and then the game crashes.

If you have the latest patches:

At which time do the crashes occur? What are the last entries in the history log? Do the crashes have anything in common (e.g. they occur when you select a particular thing)?

:) Rafiki

I have similar problems playing with the latest beta patch. I also run XP pentium 2.0 and 512MB RAM.

When playing a game as the US my crashes started around 1850. They are not happening at the same exact date. I'm not doing anything particularly or the same thing every time. I crashed three times within about two game years so I decided to quit.

I normally don't have many problems with crashes in Paradox games and I haven't had a lot of trouble this far with Victoria either. I also had a random crash or two as Prussia but that was in a somewhat longer timeframe.

As the monkeyman suggests look at the last few entries in the history log. Does the game crash just after an event (the same event) has fired?
Is the log persisted to file, and if so where?
I've been experiencing similar random crashes since v1.03c - only seen two or so prior to that patch - and would like to figure out where things are going wrong exactly. However, I usually don't have time to check the in-game log before getting kicked back to my desktop (the crashes being random and unexpected :))

History.txt in the Victoria game directory lists the events that occured in the last game.

So you load a saved game just prior to the crash, let it run and crash then immediately go to the victoria game directory and open history.txt.

I've just verified this file but it's 0 bytes large, i.e. there's nothing in it :( Note that I've not played vicky since the most recent crash so I was hoping there'd be a clue there as to the cause. Do I perhaps need to change a setting someplace for the log to be persisted to that file?

Hate to shamelessly bump this thread but I wondered whether anyone has discovered anything new on the topic?

Just to be clear: I eventually had to revert back to 1.03b due to incessant random crashes/CTDs; the game was effectively becoming unplayable because of it. A great shame too as I really liked many of the improvements in the latest patch :(

I've tried reinstalling and repatching Vicky (either just 1.03 and 1.03c or 1.03b inbetween as well), to no avail. One or two games were free of CTD's but all other ones got them at some point and restarting/loading didn't help. As soon as a game would crash once, it would crash again at most two-three years after reload...

Note that I've not had a single crash anymore since I've gone back to 1.03b (and hardly experienced any prior to installation of the latest patch, as said earlier) so it does seem to be related to 1.03c specifically...

AFAIK the only crash explicitly associated with 1.03c was a bug with the add_pop command. This bug was fixed and 1.03c was re-released within 24 hours.

My first CTD in my first play

Hi, yesterday night, as TOSCANA player, i had a CDT.
I have the Victory italian version, (buyed already with 1.03 patch included).
The last event before CDT are:

.... CDT

Very good game, but as all game of Paradox, if lunched gold in 2004.... you will play quietly without crash in 2006-2007. :p
