While playing eu2 in game, it will randomly crash to the desktop. It's on my Compaq laptop, running version 1.5 on windows xp :(. My video card is a mobility Radeon. It was doing it before I upgraded to version 1.5 from 1.0. I'm going to look for the drivers for the Radeon, and any help and suggestions would be very welcome. thanks.

You're probably on the right track. Make sure you're running with all of the most recent drivers and software patches (SP1 for XP and DirectX 8.1).

I have had problems with my Compaq laptop too (no snide comments please :D) which seem to have disappeared with the latest builds of XP but caused me no end of trouble in the past. The best solution I found was to disable hardware acceleration on the card:

Start-->Run then type dxdiag.exe

This launches the DirectX diagnostic window and will let you run both sound and video tests. Even though it may report that everything is working just fine, click on the Sound tab and then drag the Sound Acceleration slider all the way to the left.

You may still get the occasional CTD but it will be very rare. I *think* it stems from Compaq's notebook BIOS as much as anything but I still haven't been able to track down the exact cause despite some pretty extensive and frustrating attempts.

Hmmmm....maybe Kumar's on to something? :D

Depending on the vintage of your laptop, this may be the latest driver. Holy cow...a 9.1Mb driver! :eek:
