Hello everybody,

these are my System Specs and the problem I am experiencing:

I am using HOI2 version 1.3a, directly published by Paradox (ordered it from the website years ago).

My OS is WinXP Home SP2 (5.1 Build 2600)

My PC is a Proworx Perform Desktop with a 3.4 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor,
and I have 1024 MB RAM. There's another 69,3 GB available on my hard drive.

Video Card: NVidia GeForce 6200 with 256Mb memory, current driver is nv4_disp.dll (v.6.14.0011.6921, released 05.12.2007)

Sound: Dxdiag says I'm using a "C-Media Wave Device", driver version 5.12.0001.0041 (I've never really bothered with sound cards, please tell me if you need any additional information)

DirectX: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

I've got a USB Mouse (I-Trust something), a PS/2 keyboard and a Logitech Rumblepad that's always connected.

If you need more info on my system or hardware, just tell me so, I tried to include everything you asked for in the "must read" sticky.

The problem consists of random game freezes, which also happen to completely freeze my system (reboot is the only remedy) - they sometimes happen as early as the scenario selection screen, but more often in-game. (no probs with auto-saving, though).

I'd greatly appreciate any help or suggestions you can offer me with this issue, so I can continue to conquer the world without having to save every day. :p

Cheers and have a nice day,

Are you running any other programs at the same time you are getting these freezes? Like google toolbars, antivirus, etc. If so, try troubleshooting by selectively disabling the other programs; or disable them all and selectively enable them.

Hi Red Jacket,
thanks for your reply!

Yes, I've spent the better part of today trying that, but I didn't get any conclusive results - once, I had Windows Media Player running in the background, and the game was stable for about half an hour before suddenly freezing. Next time I tried WMP was off, and I didn't even get past the scenario selection menu. I noticed something though when I had WMP on, the volume of the music I was listening to de- and later increased by itself several times - I don't know if this has anything to do with the freezing, though.

Naturally, I disconnect from the internet when I play, so there was no virus protection or firewall up (I know they lessen performance and cause "inexplicable" crashes with many titles)

The thing that really gets to me is that I have to restart my PC every time this happens, a normal CTD every couple of in-game days would almost feel like an improvement right now.

Later and thanks again for your reply,

Have you renamed the avi folder to avi.old? There is something in there that causes some serious stability problems.

Hi sbr,

thanks for the advice.

Unfortunately, renaming the folder just removed the intro, the game froze again after about ten minutes. I have no idea what could be wrong.

Cheers and later,
