Right lets get down to this shizzle!

So I am trying to re-install EU2!
Why?
Well I had it installed but the music wasn't working (b4 you ask, yes I bought the game)
So I decided a nice healthy re-install was the key.
But alas, I may have made an error uninstalling. I went through the start menu > program files > paradox entertainment > eu2 uninstallation process and all was fine until I decided not to restart my pc at the end of it.
Straight after this I decided to try and install it again.

Okay so here is some info about my pc.
I have 2 cd drives. One (E:/) is a cd/dvd drive. The other (F:/) is a cd/cdrw drive.
My OS is Win XP Home edition SP2.

So I tried sticking the cd into the E:/. I can hear the cd trying to spin around and load up, but to no avail.
So I tried to put it into the F:/. Now this works, and the autoplay starts up, and it starts installing. But it gets to 6% and gives an error like so:

Component Transfer Error
Component: Core Files
File Group: common
File: F:/data2.cab
Error: Incorrect Function

This happens when trying to install GFX/Interface/ .bmp files (although I dont think this will help solve anything)

So I tried rebooting, and trying again on this drive. Same thing happens.
Next I tried exploring the F:/ and clicking on the setup.exe. Same thing happens.

Okay, so why dont I try exploring the E:/ !
And so I do.
Firstly I try the autoplay via exploring the E:/
Doing this I get an error:

E:/autoplay.exe
Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed.

This happens without it even processing the autoplay.

Finally I try clicking on the setup.exe in the E:/
It trys to start up the InstallShield Wizard and gives this error:

Europa Universalis 2
An installation support file could not be installed.
Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

So this is where I stop and am stuck!
If anyone could suggest any ideas, I would be much obliged because I want EU2 back :(

Clean the CD with windex, then try from both drives to be able to copy the entire contents to HD, if you can then try install from there.
If none of that works check back with me for more things to do.

Okay tried doing what you said.

Firstly tried copying from the E:/.
Went quite slow, and got about half-way when it stumbled across a music file and couldn't continue.

Then tried the F:/
Went much faster, only it failed @ data2.cab again saying its an invalid MS dos function

What now?

What is the name of the bmp file?

Also take a look at this:
http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q109010

But I will tell you in the past this error is usually the result of one of three things.
1) Not a legit copy.
2) CD is scratched/Dammaged
3) Drivers MB/CD/OS need updating.

The bmp is: GFX/Interface/iw_hprovince.bmp

That compontent transfer fix failed.

And I have a legit copy so it could only be 2 or 3 :(

Any solutions left

Well assuming you have cleaned the CD and updated your CD-rom drive drivers, MB drivers, and OS?

I dont mean to be ignorant, but MB drivers?

Motherboard Drivers.

Try copying it on a different machine. If that works the prob is in your machine, if not it's in the CD itself.

Sorry for not replying, but I just settled for playing the game on my laptop for the last while. Also I recently got HoI2, so thats where my time dissapeared to.

Anyway today I got the Strategy Sixpack with the sole purpose of getting Victoria. Tried installing it on my same pc, it didn't work. Again a similar problem to what was happening above with EU2. I installed EU2 and HoI fine from the strategy sixpack. I then installed Victoria fine on my laptop.

My conclusion is, the version of XP I have on my pc, it being xp home edition is inferior to the xp I have on my laptop, which is professional, and the home edition is probably causing the problems effecting these two discs.

Today I am going to copy the Victoria files onto a cd from my laptop and put them on this pc.

Thanks again ;)

Not likely as lots of people play the game on home edition.
Just setting and drivers, most likely related to the CD-rom drive.
