OK, I downloaded CORE 0.5, as I was advised that it would be effectively a 1.0, ready to go.

A quick read here says something else though. :( Also, it seems that (due to problems with the HOI moddir command) it overwrites some original files, this is fine if you only want to run CORE, but not otherwise. ;)

So I ask: should I try to make room for another install of HOI? Is CORE now mature enough - or should I wait until 0.6 (or 0.5a, or whatever you'll call it)? - the bugfix of the current version.

If (as I expect!) the answer is 'heck yes! - Install!' than please can someone knowledgable tell me if I can run without sprites installed at all, and which files I can remove in such a case? I will be needing some disk space back...

Steve.

Well, you've got two options:

- Make a separate install of HoI (just copy the entire directory structure somewhere) and apply C.O.R.E. to the second installation.

- Install C.O.R.E. on your base HoI installation and if you want to play vanilla HoI then you need to rename the following:

  • \ai to something else
  • \db\province.csv to something else
  • \oldai to \ai
  • \db\province.bak.csv to \db\province.csv

This will restore the basic HoI configuration. We will not be able to avoid this issue until Paradox fixes the mod-dir problems so waiting for the next C.O.R.E. version will not help with mod-dir issues :(

What you may want is to wait another couple of days until we release the first hotfix. The game is already stable but it does have a few issues like wrong unit names, wrong commanders assigned at game start and such (ie non-fatal but doesn't look nice ;))

Thanks for the reply and the explanation: I'll wait the couple of days then - my thanks to all involved in this effort which I am shamelessly going to ride on the back of! :)

Steve.
