Just posted my first mod in PDXMods: Time2Work.

I'm new to modding and C#, but not new to programming. In real life I work with Transportation and Travel Demand Models for real cities in the US. Since I have some experience in that area my goal is to try to make mods that would make the game be more realistic.

Let me know if there is any feedback, suggestions or bugs in the mod.

This mod is exactly what I hoped for, which is a functionality that Real Time had for Cities 1.

Thank you very much, indeed the night should be more quiet compared to vanilla.

However the real issue is that time is too fast in the game, so even day-time workers that got stuck in traffic may still be roaming by night due to how the time is too fast for them to fulfill their schedules.

A good combo with this mod would be one that makes the time and the day
ight cycle slower so that every citizen can do their routines properly.

Real Time was my inspiration to do this mod. I agree with the time in the game being too fast, I've been thinking about this same issue, but I'm not sure how to approach this problem yet.

Also I noticed even when night shift is set to low, there are many people going at night with "on shopping", I think the game may have a sort of time of day setting for activities too.

Btw the rush hour is awesome!

What an awesome idea!! Great work mate.
Is it even possible to change how much real-life time passes between in-game minutes? I think it should be heavily correlated to the CPU and activities processing ("Cims decision making" and "Cims doing stuff" like producing goods, entering a car, etc.).
So not sure it's even possible. But I'm not a CS2 modder so I might be wrong, just speaking from common sense.

Thankyou for this. Ive been wanting to reduce night time activity since the game came out.

I dont know if its possible for the future, but is there also a way to reduce night time shoppers etc. For some reason there are still thousands of people out and about at 2am. Id love to see the city mostly asleep and come alive in the morning. thanks again for the mod !!

Thank you everyone for their feedback. I did look into adjusting the game time so that commute times would be more realistic. However, that doesn't seem possible right now. So now I'm focusing on other ideas to improve this mod

# Time2Work
Has been updated

This is the biggest update so far with many new features, including:
* A significant reduction on night trips
* More options to configure work trips, and also school, shopping and leisure trips
* The addition of a week system and the possibility of having weekdays and weekends in the game

Let me know if anyone has any feedback or suggestions

After I updated the mod, increased the lunch break probability, and selected the 7 days week mode, my simulation seems drop a lot, I'm not sure whether it's this mod's problem

I'm playing a city with 180k population, almost no traffic jams with 7950x3d. I used to have more than 4x speed shown in the dev tool, now I got only 1.5x speed

Unfortunately this mod will significantly slow down the performance of the game - with some settings having a greater impact. This mainly will happen because there will be a significant increase in number of trips during the day. Changing some settings of the mod might help.

The 7 days week mode will have a significant impact, because on a weekday there is a lot more trips happening than in the vanilla game or in the previous versions of this mod. If you want to still try to use the week mode, but want to improve the performance I would suggest disabling the vacation settings for work and school and see if that helps. Or also enabling the early shopping and leisure feature.

The main issue here, is that in the Vanilla game, trips are unrealistic spread out during day and night and this mod changes that and concentrates the same number of trips in the rush hours - which will cause performance issues.

Changing these settings should help performance.
* Lowering lunch day probabiliy
* Increasing the early/delay factor
* Not using the week or weekday options, and instead using the average day option
* Disabling work and school vacation settings
* Enabling early shopping and leisure

Let me know if changing some of those settings help. I'm not able to run a 180k city on Vanilla settings on my computer and I would be interested to know how some of those settings changes your perfomance.

The updates are fantastic, this is for me the best mod avaiable at the moment.

Now nights feel proper nights with barely anyone moving in a small town.

I disabled weekends because it just screws with the normal flow and it is hard to track being the game without a weekly calendar.

You are doing a great job, if there are any ideas you have planned to add even more feature please share!

I don't have many ideas right now, but I want to add the weekday and weekend to the UI so that it is possible to know which one is the current day. Currently, that is shown on the log

Thank you for the feedback! :)

Time2Work

Has been updated. These are the major updates:
  • There are a few new options to configure your cims work schedule
  • The day of the week will now be shown in the UI
  • There is now a feature to slowdown time and make the day longer - without changing the simulation speed. Now instead of cims taking 2 hours to go to work, their commute times will be much more reasonable and they will have more free time to enjoy their lives instead of spending half of their day in traffic!

Beautiful job with the update, especially the slow time feature, it makes every schedule so much more realistic! This is the true real successor of Real Time from Cities 1.

This mod is excellent! A real mod to make the passage of time more realistic! Thanks so much for this!

A suggestion; would it be possible to adjust how many days a month lasts? For example, have a month last 7 days, so that it's possible to experience a full work-week within a month?
