Hah. Haven't even noticed you made the thread.

Well, anyways I'm working on the mod too! :D

Not at the moment but I'll be active once the story/characters/events come into picture.

Which is soon... when I have enough free time to do province names and finish the few positions I have left.

Lots of Screenies.

Well, here are some screenies to continue to prove that progress is being made (too bad you cannot see the new cursor courtesy of Kyba):

You can also see the new and improved minimap, which no longer shows the wrong world.

And here is something that I couldn't get to work for a while and then suddenly I understood why, I suck at saving files I swear.

Yup, new shields. The Muslim/Turkish ones are in beta but the others are final. The hope is that they will take up less room on the map, which I think is obvious that they do.

Add another name to those waiting to see this. ;)

Welcome to the club! I really hope that Vesimir, Issac and I can produce a product that lives up to everyone's ideas.

To show that this weekend wasn't completely self indulgence, here is a screen shot in photoshop. It shows me adding names to the map.

To answer the obvious:
Yes, I use Chrome (it rocks)
I am listening to Highland Reign (look them up, they rock)
Names take forever, but not quite as long as terrain (does not rock)

Requesting a province named Gulluoglu from which to spread my reign of terror once this comes out. ;)

Looking good, I may be able to help with event-type questions when you guys get to that point. After making a number of events for my own games, I've come to realize just how limiting they can be in terms of what you can do and how creative the Bopak guy was in trying to pull things off with the CK script.

There. :p Some names had to be modified a bit. I used "Noble" for Count Lake, (given count is a title and not a verb). Wulfram means "Tin" so the closest I could find was "Tinc" which means metal but also is "tin" with a "c".

I'll hold you to that help.

That is so cool! Thank you!

I hope my province is a "good" one. ;)

One thing I like already is being able to EASILY tell where the "King" is by the shield design.

There are not a lot of differences between a Duke & King design in CK. I have to squint & zoom in to see the little crown at the bottom.

Heh heh, thanks for that. For some history and/or variable ideas on the name Azugal, he was a Dwarf I used to play on Everquest. Full name Azugal Axanadar. So perhaps using his name as a character on your game, perhaps a Dwarven ruler or the like would be cool. Or a province name, either works, lol, and I appreciate being included either way. :)

Let me see if i can find some of my old PnP roleplaying maps and see if I can come up with some province names. And maybe some character names for when you populate the characters...

We might just as well ask everyone on the forum for the names of their RPG characters. Would fill up half of the characters in game. :D

I'm so so about the shields but that's only because I love modded games that keep a vanilla look.

Yes, there are also a few generators, but the problem is we need to classify them by cultures (or not, I guess).

As for the shields... I can always include the originals in a pack. Gfx are up to the user really. One problem is there are some rather small provinces so the smaller shields will cover up less.

Just a thought anyway... If you don't want the names, just say so. :)

No, I am perfectly fine with creative names, I just need to find a way to organize them. I actually prefer user generated names (so keep the province names coming, btw) over "randomly" generated ones. After a while the random ones can start to show their patterns.

Being an old D&D Gamemaster for decades I'm sure I can provide names for you as well if needed.

I have a nice "manual" elvish name generator plus all the character names players have used that played in my world.

I created a dwarf Father's Clan as well from Middle Earth (one of the 7 Dwarf fathers). King Kheregh of the Zadar’Pered Clan (the Stone-shapers)

Just give the word and it looks like the forum members are here for you.

I too was a D&D DM, but as of late I have not been able to play. I'd like to see what you have, Arhem.

As for the viewers at home. Province names! Seriously. I have half of the western landmass named and my brain is fried. Just no bad words backwards or hidden (I am looking at you Scunthorpe, England). Pile them on and I shall use them in time.

Which also reminds me, name the three landmasses. Go go gadget make the readers do everything Sunday chair!

Here are two links to what look like pretty decent fantasy-type generators:

http://rinkworks.com/namegen/

http://nine.frenchboys.net/fantasyplace.php

The first one looks really good, because you can customize the output a bit. It should make it so that you could use it to create certain "feels" for different regions.

For instance, I told it to generate names based on a syllable + syllable + consonant + vowel + vowel and it populated a list with names like:

Anwormea
Ingarnia
Worormteo
Ghachree
...etc

Another quick list I generated was based on consonant + consonant + apostrophe + vowel + syllable + syllable + vowel and kicked out stuff like:

Ml'eisilda
Pr'averchau
Wh'otheroldo
Sh'oackrothe
...etc

Hope this helps!

I've been using a different gen from the second link, but yes the name one does help a lot.

Actually, on the topic of names, I wanted to bring up this point. As a HUGE nerd (massive nerd, I am talking all-out) I played Warhammer Fantasy Battles and quickly fell in love with their setting. Now, I am not going to blatantly rip off their stuff, but I'll admit I've thought of things like "I can put Vampire counts here and the Empire here" more than once. Here is my idea:

-Religion is race, that is final (not that anyone has had an issue with it)
-Each culture is basically open to every race, but I want to give each culture a "preferred race"
--Preferred race will dictate the style of naming
--Humans, I believe, will have the widest range of names
---To do names I want to use European-esque names
---This means that I will merge similar groups (no fighting, merging is arbitrary and mostly due to style) and use the first names as the names for that culture
---Last names will be in similar style but obviously not place names

I believe this is a good compromise and will help speed the process. What this means is that Dwarves, Elves and Orcs will still have dwarvish, elven and orcish names... but humans will also have human names. Names like Georg, Hans, Louis etc... but NOT names like "von Hohenzollern". Maybe "von Veldrur", but not European place names. This will also massively speed up the naming process for us programmers.

This is good and bad; it is good because it will allow you to let the races declare war freely against one another without having to have claims. The one concern I have about it is that I don't think you can change the way Orthodox/Catholic work in relation to each other, so those "races" won't be able to declare war on each other for free. You will have to have two races permenantly allied with each other to have this make sense, unless I've overlooked something. Despite that, I agree, this is really the only good way to model races and give them free wars.

There also might be a problem in that character names are associated with cultures -- thus you could eventually run into what happens in regular CK if you aren't careful with religion/culture spread. Berber Catholics, Arab Orthodox, Greek Jew, etc. Within the scope of this mod, you would end up with Orcs who have dwarvish names or dwarves with elvish names, etc.

Since religion and culture can only spread via event, though, it would be important to make sure that these events are either created from scratch or altered in such a way that when a religion (race) spreads it ALSO takes a corresponding culture with it to keep names appropriate. Otherwise, the only real way to fix this after the fact would be to have events which fire for those cultures which get out of "synch" to convert to the correct "race". This might get weird for for the player, I really don't know. You might end up with neighbors who were elves get force converted over to dwarves if their culture changed to one of the dwarven ones unexpectedly. It might not be a big deal overall, though, just a heads up for potential problems to look for down the road.

Likely the best way to think about it would be to view culture as a "subrace" within that race:

[culture] (religion)
-------- --------
[plains] (human)
[coastal] (human)
[highlands] (human)
[nomadic] (human)
[high] (elf)
[forest] (elf)
[sea] (elf)
[mountain] (dwarf)
[hill] (dwarf)
[gully] (dwarf)
...etc

First- I'm not up at all on programing so I have no idea "how" these things get implimented, I'm just glad you do!

Names:
In a fantasy setting humans can have pretty much any sounding name you desire as they are usualy spread clear across the world & each area is influenced by doing their own thing. Humans on the "eastside" won't have the same sounding names as those on the "westside." So make human names as varying as you want.

Culture:
I like the way this sounded: "Likely the best way to think about it would be to view culture as a "subrace" within that race"

[culture] (religion)
-------- --------
[plains] (human)
[coastal] (human) etc.

It depends on how you have decided each race lives. Humans are everywhere of course but do elves or dwarves farm extensively? Would they want to live on the plains or just trade for such food resources? Do orcs farm, are they that patient & organized? If not they would probably just pillage those areas. I can't see the clasinc Orc living on the plains or at sea: but pillaging all those areas that are not "hilly" in nature.

Races:
Did you also have more exotic type races in mind as well: feline, giants, lizard, winged etc?

Ideas:
Almost anything you can think of has probably been used someplace- Warhammer/D&D/books/movies etc. So feel free to drop modified stuff into the game if it makes sence & fits your vision. Of course blatant ripoff's like naming the Elf Lord Elrond in the Province Rivendell might not be appropriate. :)
