  • Europa Universalis: Rome
hello,

just got Rome and am excited about playing it. However, to my surprise, I can't get the game to start. It gets to 100% and then gives me this error:

"CRC error: The file C:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis - Rome\tutorial\rebel_flag.tga doesn't match the file in the setup's.cab file. The medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted; contact your software vendor."

Abort Retry Ignore

Ignoring gives a "component transfer error"

component: core files
file group:
file:
error: catastrophic failure

Any idea how to fix this to get the game installed correctly?

As it says: "The medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted". So your CD or download file is bad. IF a CD, swap it at the shop for a replacement. If a downloaded version, delete it and download a fresh copy.

I do have to say it's surprising that the two of you have the identical error though, perhaps they were both made on a bad day in the CD factory ...

Are you guys installing from accounts with adminstrator priviledges?

Something similiar can be seen here:

Good luck getting the game to run. Im enjoying it for a third time now! Something about the era that really appeals.

same problem

I too am having this problem. I am running Vista64bit ultimate and my user has administrative privilige. I am using the downloaded version obtained through the impulse reactor. I have uninstalled and re downloaded with the same results.

I'm not sure if it matters but I am running Norton 360 v3 as my protection software. OS and Protection are genuine and up to date.

the "run as admin" solution will likely not work in my case as the download is run as part of the Impulse program and installed the same way. I will try to run the umpulse software as admin and post my results

Solution. (worked for me anyways)

After uninstalling and rebooting, I loaded the impulse reactor (it's the same sort of thing as STEAM but from Stardock) as admin and re-installed the game. afterwards I assigned both "RomeGame.exe" and "Rome.exe" administrator privilege and ran the game. It correctly loaded to the main menu. I haven't had time to play the game itself (have to work in the morning so I'm just posting the results) but this is @least an improvement on the results I was getting before.

Hope this helps,
Nathan
