Hi All,
Can anyone tell me why, when a province rebels, your own fortress is also suddenly Rebel as well? (not always).
This seems to completely defeat the point of building them, especially in the colonial cities as the cost of garrisoning an army in say 1 in 5 cities to police these army rebellions is not benefical.
To then have to attack your own fortress that previously had your troops inside seems patently stupid, as well as being completly un-historical- and just how did these pitch-fork wealding peasants turn a maximum fortress garrison into rebels?; the army in this era was the police after all.

What, you never heard of armies revolting? Rebels that spring up in your own provinces are your own citizens, the same citizens that make up your armies, fortress defenders, and so on - unless, of course - they happen to be foreign mercenaries, which the game doesn't model. In provinces that tend to revolt, I do not build or enlarge fortresses for this very reason, no sense making it harder on yourself to retake a province after a complete revolt.

Exactly how often did armies revolt at this time?
I'm sure that you can pull a few examples out of the hat, but I'll place a bet that not many started from within the castle.
1. The army was the forerunner of the modern police system within the absolute monarchal system, until the the European varities of modern government emerged in post-1815 (the real modern age),and were used as a tool of control; on their inhabitants, as well as its conventional role.
2. Exactly how can a horde of peasants take a fortess?
3. I really feel that this un-balances the game, along with the bad-boy values.

Since revolt cover a pretty wide variety of things happening (e.g. secessionists, civil war, nobles rebelling against the monarch, peasant uprisings, competing heirs to the throne and so on....) I think that the possibility for them starting inside your fortress is certainly allright.

If I'm not mistaken, the manual clearly states that it is the garrison of the fortress that revolts along with the peasants.

As for the badboy value unbalancing the game: you should've heard the debate _before_ it was implemented. Virtually every player complained that it was too easy to win the game by military conquest alone, and that is was too unbalanced that way.

Personally, I think that the badboy value is an effective but crude way of handling powermongers. I'd rather have seen a more intelligent AI making longterm strategies, and identifying powermongering nations as threats to be dealt with, rather than this strictly mathematical declarations of war.

Oh well.
 
If rebels start with the controll of a fortress depends mainly on two factors
1) Revolt %, higher % = higher chance for rebels to gain initial controll
2) Fortress level, higher lvl = less chance for rebels to gain initial controll
