hello,
i have a strange problem with HoI 2-doomsday:
i played it about a month with much fun and without any problem, but when i try now to start the game i just get to the loading screen, then (not always at the same loading status) the screen becomes black and the system reboots without any warning post.

i did not change anything in the system, except a new cd-drive some days before the problem first accured, but with it the game ran also some days.

i tried to repair the game, to uninstall and reinstall, with and without the patch 1.1, but nothing helped.

when windows is rebooted, it says there were a fatal system error with a device driver (i hope i translated correctly), after that i installed the newest graphic card drivers (no idea which one else could it be) but the problem stayed.

other games still run without problems.

Anyone an idea??? Please help me!!!

Okay let's try some standard things.
1) Make sure you have the latest patch for the game.
2) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
3) Set the color depth to 16BIT
4) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.
5) Run a Virus check and a Adware/Spybot checker
6) Update your Windows, update your Video card drivers and audio card drivers. Then repeat steps 1-4.

If none of that works then:
Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.

thanks for your help, but i just solved the problem by myself

it seems that there was a failure in the video card driver (no idea where it came from) which didnt disappear after a update. i had to uninstall and reinstall it then it worked.
the strange thing is that other games ran without problems (???)

Glad it's sorted.

And I don't find it strange. Paradox games tend to stress the capabilities of both the card and the driver, although in a fastly different way than 3D first person shooter games. ;)
