If you were to play a Russian duchy, I am sure there are many peolple who would support you in a bid for the Russian crown - currently held by the evil Piasts. Of course, the Mongols ought to be arriving any minute now. :D
I'm sure Novgorod isn't too bad this time of year... :D

Novgorod the city is actually crown land of the Piasts, which kind of reduces Novgorod the duchy to a rather minor power, which (coughs embarrasedly) Norway is eyeing greedily. Also its current duke has no sons, and his only living daughter (infertile, unfortunately for me) is married to an Yngling. So on the whole, not your best bet. There's an independent further east that controls a good bit of land. If you'd like the save, PM me your email and I'll send it to you, and you can take a look around.

Having looked around a bit on the map, it seems that either the duchy of Saxony (in "North Africa", which indeed deserves the label "North") or the Principality of Trapezous (hoping to become Georgia, and then perhaps also Transoxania or Persia one day if the circumstances prove favourable) would be most suitable for me.

Yea.....about the Persia crown...Atleast me would like to see the Seljuks or Il-Khan atleast living at the conversion to EUII so we get a Muslim power for later in the game. It might be just me. Trapezous sounds fun, a little rival to Blackeyes Byz.

The Ilkhan mostly stays pagan, however...

But anyhow, the Timurid Empire would have a much easier time becoming the Mughal Empire in EU2, with no Persian provinces to worry about when their disintegration event fires.

Anyway... am I in? As Prince of Trapezous?

I'd like to get started on the diplomacy, to try to forge some treaties that may prove useful for a 3-province minor...

You are surely welcome, comrade Phoenix. :) Where the devil is Trapezous, though? I have the vague impression it's right smack in the middle of the Mongol's path...

It's the duchy west of Georgia, currently independent from Byzantium. Hopefully in neither Mongol path, but rather between them. ;)

I think it is between the mongols, hope so for you atleast.

By the time the Ilkhan reaches my borders, Jerusalem and Byzantium will also be threatened. Worst case possible would be that I join Byzantium for some imperial lov... er, protection.

Our Byz player is rather the strong and silent type. You may find yourself being re-conquered before getting any attention.

"Silent"? "Silent" is rather a understatement, a more fitting word would be "mute". Just kidding Blackeye, but it is rather true.

I suggest if byzantium player doesnt respond before friday then a new player should be found. They are too cool to loose imo.

I could also imagine playing Saxony or Genoa...

(particularly the latter, with the hopes of one day becoming Burgundy, but a downside to that would be that Naples seems to be hungry for the provinces...)

Also, Phoenix, I may be creating an eastern Piast kingdom, in the Bolgar region (but with some of eastern Rus). With my help you could gain control of the Caucasus (in fact I'll give you some five or so Georgian counties) and in fact everything east of the Crimea/the Volga.

Sounds tempting indeed... though the Mongols worry me.

I think Genoa would feel very squeezed indeed, between Naples, France, and Flanders all having ambitions at what's left of Germany's dominions, not to mention the Burgundian crown. The East is rather more in need of an extra power. Have you considered the Duchy of Suzdal? Independent, Papal Controller, a not-too-sucky dynasty (I mean, not as good as people who have been breeding the Kwizatch Haderach for 150 years, of course, but not too bad for an AI) and I'm sure they would have a lot of support if they tried to regain the throne of Rus for the Rurikovich dynasty. (Though oddly enough they don't have a claim on it.)

The Duchy of Suzdal is a good candidate as well, yes...

(I even have a plan on how to return them to the orthodox, Russian teaching  )

Still, the Mongols are worrying me. But... I just conceived of a plan on how to deal with that as well! :D

Then go for the Duchy of Suzdal then. It is up to you.

Just remember, if you're independent of me and therefore a threat to me due to everyone else being so aggressive towards Poland (and looking to you as an excuse), I will not help you with the Mongols and will probably devour Suzdal if the world attacks me. They might be able to destroy me in their little World War, but the weakest are always the first to suffer. The weakest being Suzdal and Denmark...
