It was late 1935, and amongst all echelons of Soviet people there had come to be a feeling that things were coming to an end. One could say they feared that the world itself would stop in 1936.
In the west a new threat had risen. The international worker’s movement had learned the hard way that the upper classes of the world would use violent means to preserve their base of power. But they were in no way prepared for the sudden rise of fascism that now commanded the vast resources of Germany and Italy. Wherever the Soviet people looked, they were surrounded by enemies. Many were convinced that the rise of fascism was just the follow-up attempt from the capitalist states to crush the first worker’s republic. It had after all not even passed two decades since the united forces of the capitalist states had invaded the Soviet Union despite having barely finished up their first world war. The constant money stream from industry barons like Henry Ford to Adolf Hitler and his bunch did not exactly comfort the people. The biggest fear was that the capitalist states would get the fascist states to attack the Soviet Union while the capitalist states could be left alone to develop their class societies without the annoying thing that was bolshevism.
It was grim times.
Not content with leaving history, the Supreme Council of Workers (formally known as the Central Executive Committee of the USSR) decided that the crazy idea of one socialist German scientist in exile, Albert Einstein, would be their hope for the future. Or should one say the past…
The operation was named Radical (rad•i•cal –adjective 1. of or going to the root or origin)
code-named Red Alert. The objective was to travel back into time and ensure the world revolution once and for all. The operation would have been deemed impossible a mere two weeks earlier. But the newest advances in soviet industry and people, combined with a
desperation never seen before –and the mysterious machinations of Albert Einstein together with some leftover half-burnt documents from a guy named Tesla, ensured its possibility.
“The fascists will never see this one coming” CCCP General Secretary Joseph Stalin noted as he looked over the plan once more. Soviet President Mikhail Kalinin nodded from his corner, as usual.
“Actually it ist more like they did not zee this coming comrade. Ze fascists will not even be born when we begin ze plan. It’s all relative you zee, ja?” Comrade Einstein was once more stating the obvious.
“Lenin talked about one step forward, two steps back. If only he was here today. Then he would see great revolutionary struggle of soviet people making possible one hundred steps back, a thousand forward!”
Stalin was now standing on his chair, chuckling whilst caressing his manly moustache.
Like a real chairman should be doing, one might add.
Meanwhile, in the deep underground of Moscow, Comrade Fyodor entered the chamber of the Einstein-Tesla, dubbed Rasputin by the technicians working on it due to its innate ability to alter history despite not looking able to do so, leaving behind a cat, a radio and a collectively owned tractor. He was going to miss tractors…
This is my very first AAR. I know exactly how I want to write it. I have all sorts of ideas for how this will progress. My biggest problem is that I still do not feel that I master this game. But then again, who says this mission has to succeed? It will be a fun trip, and should this turn into yet another failed communist state then hey, why not?
I will be playing with the Victoria Realism and Rebalance project, due to its ability to make Victoria pre 1.2 much more playable. I will also mod some aspects of the game to allow for the Soviet Union in the early years of the game. More details of this will come with my first in-game-post.
PS: Yes, I am a communist. And NO this AAR is not for political discussions. That is not the point of this AAR, nor this forum. Please make me feel stupid for pointing that out.
PPS: I aim to update at least once a week. It will probably be more often than that.
