Hi all,
I was just playing a game of HoI2 (w/DD&Armageddon). I enjoy this game, and I've been playing a lot lately, but some things really irritate me about it.
After many long play sessions as the Western Allies, Germany finally collapsed, though Italy and Japan remain as active enemies. Suddenly, I received the Redraw the Map of Europe event, and I have been forced to convert the game to the historic 1945 borders. I couldn't even save the game with the event unactivated! This particular game had long since departed from the historical timeline, and I don't see why I'm not given a free hand to rearrange western Europe to my liking instead of the Yalta/Potsdam forms. The odd way that the events activated have left some extremely bizarre results in place such as a Stalinist Austria, even though the USSR controlled only 10% of the country (there is no way the Western Allies would have permitted this; look at the actual historical solution, and historically, USSR controlled a good deal more of Austria in 1945 than they do in my game), or as the continued existance of Vichy France! My armies cannot even supply into Northern Italy now, because this Red Austria is in the way!!!
I'm left with having to go into the save game file and rearrange everything by hand the way I had intended to, or give up finishing for lack of interest.
There must be some way to change this (these) events so that I (or other players) are not forced to accept diplomatic solutions that I/they would not, in the position of the leaders we play the roll of, choose or accept. And moreover, to avoid the implausible and impossible to play situations that these events can create.
I know that there has been problems with persistant Vichy in the past, but I thought that the events had been corrected to eliminate this.
Vichy should collapse absolutely whenever the Allies invade metropolitan France. Historically the fall of the Magreb was enough for the Germans to occupy all of France, after all. Events finalizing the war in Europe shouldn't, imo, initiate until there is no territory in Europe still controlled by any Axis nation.
I am considering trying to rewrite the pertinent events, but I'm not sure I have the skill to do so.
In addition, I am worried that if I rewrite events from their Vanilla form, any new patchs will not install properly. I hope that some of you know whether this would be the case or not.
Thanks for any help or insight you wish to share.
