there is a patch in the tech support.
yeah but which one? and what will it fix? on what part are you referring?

and where is the tech support. do you mean the same taht i already mentioned in my postings?
It's the 2.36b patch that you need to play the mod. The tech support I'm mentioning is the one here in the EU Rome forum. You need to register your game to see it.
on what part are you referring?
I didn't say anything about "parts."

I bought my game on Steam,

i downloaded the 2.36b and c already and was even asking where the final version is, because i showed a link with the content how to patch it all. so i was there already and i was asking about the checksum, because 2.32 and 2.36 differ, but i really think the guy who wrote 2.36 FINAL made a type and means 2.32 final.

i already applied 2.36b and c without registering.

i dont know why you tell me to register the game anyways because when i click register there comes an error... and paradox doesnt care about it anymore as it seems

still remaining
--> how can i find out the checksum?
--> am i correct on 2.32 final and 2.36c is the latest, because 2.36 final doesnt exist?

Thank you so far for the effort

Might wanna take that up with Paradox because it works fine for me.

The front page says you need 2.36b beta, not 2.36 final. Please read correctly before asking for help.

Because normally, you need to have the game registered in order to see tech support. The only reason why you can see it right now is because the forum changed companies so it had a couple of bugs during the change. Some of those are people seeing things they're not supposed to.

i posted this the very first time:
Update:

i tried to find out the current checksum of the game. after starting the game in the bottom left is says ".....v2" (meaning something like "Version 2"). There is no checksum.

i went to settings.txt and changed anisotropicfiltering and multisalmling to zero just in case it wouldnt show properly. nothing. i still cannot find the checksum in the main menu!

well, as i said before, when in the game i see the normal main menu, i cant find it.
i meant to ask where it is then. maybe i am to stupid and it is somewhere in the edge or so, but i really looked everywhere. in all sub menus too. in the lower left there is standard font type, a bit digitally looking, saying "Rome v2"
i could make a screenshot maybe, but its like that.

i bought the game 4 days or so on steam.

yes the checksums differ, the 2.32 one, then the ones with the updates. it is all in the threads, of course i read them all, but as you see somehow it doesnt work, that is why i asked.

well in the threads there is also confusion because sometimes it didnt work with the patches and people talk about this mix-up and i believed the some are right, but maybe they rent, maybe they are. and maybe it was the reason it didnt work.

so in the end: what i bought there is from steam, cant update and version not shown correctly, other things, etc.

no problem, i will just leave it there, thanks for the help anyways, maybe i am better off with some weekend of vanilla and then calling it a retro trip.

thank you.

I didn't say anything about looking in-game.

You can't. You have to know what patch you have.

i really like the mod, but the siege system drives me nuts. even with 100 % progress, you can often wait another 6 months for the siege to finish. it annoys me, i cannot play it any more. i prefer e4 with the improved and predictable system

Game problem, not mod problem. It is old EU siege system (until EU4).

I followed all the troubleshooting steps, I reinstalled the mod, but it crashes when I click singleplayer on the main menu.

Yep. Me too. I installed patch 2.36b over 2.36c. I did a vanilla load and had the correct checksum for 2.36b. Then I installed the mod and it all loaded up with no problem, but as soon as I pressed SINGLE PLAYER it crashed to the desktop.

I have had this working in the past - probably in 2011/12 - not sure what could have changed for the game since then. Although my computer is different now with Windows 8.1 where as in the past I was using Windows 7. Could this be the issue?

Not the issue as I'm using windows 8 and it works for me. Did you remember to delete the cache files?

Thanks DKM, but I did remember to that but I am not sure if that's the key. What I have noticed however is that the province textures folder was missing and not generating in the new cache for whatever reason. I do also remember that this folder played a part in the past (I have old man memory these days so I do get a bit confused). But with this folder missing I am not sure the game was ever going to start.

So this is what I did, and by the looks of it seems to have solved the issue

Uninstall the game.
Reinstall the game (This generates a new province_texture folder in map/cache- mine was missing hence this step)
Then copy the province_texture folder in the map/cache folder and then paste it somewhere (desktop etc).
Patch up the game to 2.36b.
Install the mod in the mod folder.
Rename the cache folder in the map folder to cache_vanilla.
Create a new cache folder (in the map folder) and copy the Province_textures folder you put by earlier into that folder.
Launch the game, select the mod in launcher and it should load.
Press Single Player - and it shouldn't crash as it was before....

I am going to try it with the lof_mod as well so I haven't actually played the RoA mod yet. But I am a step further than last time.

I hope all this makes sense. And I hope you guys can get it to work. Report back if it does or not. Meanwhile I am going to post these instructions in the lof_mod thread just in case there are any folks struggling with that one.

Good luck!

btw I am using a Steam copy of the game so all pre - beta patches I think were up to date. If you're going off the disk you might have to update it via the launcher before using the 2.36b patch.

At least I think so....
