i posted this the very first time:
Update:
i tried to find out the current checksum of the game. after starting the game in the bottom left is says ".....v2" (meaning something like "Version 2"). There is no checksum.
i went to settings.txt and changed anisotropicfiltering and multisalmling to zero just in case it wouldnt show properly. nothing. i still cannot find the checksum in the main menu!

well, as i said before, when in the game i see the normal main menu, i cant find it.
i meant to ask where it is then. maybe i am to stupid and it is somewhere in the edge or so, but i really looked everywhere. in all sub menus too. in the lower left there is standard font type, a bit digitally looking, saying "Rome v2"
i could make a screenshot maybe, but its like that.
i bought the game 4 days or so on steam.
yes the checksums differ, the 2.32 one, then the ones with the updates. it is all in the threads, of course i read them all, but as you see somehow it doesnt work, that is why i asked.
Might wanna take that up with Paradox because it works fine for me.
The front page says you need 2.36b beta, not 2.36 final. Please read correctly before asking for help.
Because normally, you need to have the game registered in order to see tech support. The only reason why you can see it right now is because the forum changed companies so it had a couple of bugs during the change. Some of those are people seeing things they're not supposed to.

well in the threads there is also confusion because sometimes it didnt work with the patches and people talk about this mix-up and i believed the some are right, but maybe they rent, maybe they are. and maybe it was the reason it didnt work.
so in the end: what i bought there is from steam, cant update and version not shown correctly, other things, etc.
no problem, i will just leave it there, thanks for the help anyways, maybe i am better off with some weekend of vanilla and then calling it a retro trip.
thank you.
