Hello everyone.....seeing your work has inspired me to buy DD and use DAIM.....I played HOI 2 when it first came out, but then I read the thread about the guy who took over the entire world as the Germans by 1942, so I decided to wait a while to come back when the AI was improved......I think it's almost time, and I look forward to the next iteration of DAIM......

I was tinkering around with taking major powers out of their Axis / Allied designations and putting only Brazil in the Allies, Argentina in the Axis, and some other small country in the Commitern.......I wonder if anyone else has tried this, and if so, has anyone tried it with DAIM?

Also, I noticed the manpower posts about major powers going down to "zero".....what if more manpower was put into the game? I suppose it wouldn't matter too much, as the AI would just burn through it anyway....

Thanks for your hard work on DAIM! :)

Jeff

hello jeff and welcome to the forum.

DAIM is reacting well to unexpected participants especially for the fact that G'Kar and I didn't programm the AI for such things.
A few weeks ago in a test game the swedes and portugal join the Axis but UK anexed them both.

About the manpower.
G'Kar and I will tweak this for the next release but more manpower wouldn't solve the problem

Spocky

Yep, another welcome to the forum from me! :)

Most importantly, giving more manpower to the AI would be a so-called AI cheat, and we don't want to use that kind of thing. It's easy to make the AI more competitive by handing out gifts (that's what happens on the higher difficulty levels as well), but we try to improve what the AI does without extra benefits. If manpower is a problem, just give the AI a bonus to it in difficulty.csv. ;)

As for the changed Axis and Allies: When the changes are too dramatic, the AI might fail.

Hmmm.........

Using D-DAIM and using the editor to remove all nations from their Allied, Axis, or Commitern labels (but keeping the established alliances in tact as local alliances), I had a very interesting non-participatory game as Honduras, however, Austria joined the UK alliance and actually fought against Germany when it invaded Poland! Also, the UK launched a reverse Sealion into Germany (a manouver I once tried in the old game High Command)....with suicidal results (just like my human foray many years ago)....Germany then declared peace with the overseas remnants of nations it took over (France, Belgium, Netherlands)....then invaded USSR, but then declared peace with them too, only to be double-crossed when USSR declared war.....Romania must have had troops stationed in the north, because all of a sudden, USSR provinces became Romanian (as Germany, Romania, and Slovakia were allied)! Italy then declared war against the USSR, but did not join the German alliance.....I ended there, as I decided this alternate reality was enough for now.....

Jeff

EDIT: Oops....when I made ENG alliance, I used AUS thinking they were Austrailia, not Austria....that explains it!

Yep, ahistorical setups or decisions often lead to unexpected results in HoI.
