Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.

Well the answer is the VIA drivers you are using. They are known to be buggy. You may be able to switch to all WDM drivers.

Also is there no update for your sound card driver, the one you are using is 5 years old.

Yes the Sound card could be the cause of the crash!
Update the driver if possible.
Let's try that and if it does not work you can run and post another Dxdiag.

I have the exact same problem but with an english ver.

My setup:
P4 2.53
ASUS P4S8X
Radeon 9700 pro
512 MB RAM

And I am SURE my problem is not driver relatet .....
Please start your own thread and I will be happy to help you out.
The reason for your own thread is so I do not confuse the two issues that even though they sound the same may have totally different causes.

Hallo again,

With some difficulties I succeeded updating my sound driver and replacing all the via drivers (even though they claim to be better than microsofts...). Unfortunately, I still face the crashes. Today I manage to play until 1069 though!

Here my new test results. I still hope the problem can be solved somehow.

You obviously have something interfering with the game we just must hunt it down.
First thing is to make sure you have redone the standard things after you reinstalled.
1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.

Well if that is an option for you, I am more fammiliar with XP so may be able to help more. The only problems for you is that I think there is no way around the VIA driver problem in XP.

You can just rename the music folder the same as you did with the AVI folder, Music_back.

Glad it worked out for you.

I don't see what this has to do with the subject of this thread, If you have a problem then you should start a new thread.

His problem was solved though.
