Short summary of your issue
Game having repeated and sudden crashes

Game Version
1.7.6 Kahwah

What OS are you playing on?
Windows 11

Do you have mods enabled?
No

Have you tried verifying your game files?
Yes, multiple times. Have updated graphics drivers and have restarted computer.

How much "pain" is this causing you?
10

Please explain the issue you experienced in the most condensed way possible
Will unpause the game, it will run for normally about a month, then crash straight to desktop with no warning

Please explain how to reproduce the issue
Playing. The crash keeps happening regardless of what I'm doing in game at the time.

Edit: It appears to also be on the game side because I loaded up a cloud save on my gaming laptop which has much better specs than my desktop and the crash instantly happened again. Didn't even make it 3 days.

Right click on victoria3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here. IF dxdiag.txt fails to attach here, rename it to dxdiag.log , or zip it up.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/pdx_settings.json .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/crashes/ folder, attach here the latest (only!) exceptions.txt

I attempted the above steps earlier from another thread I found and the crash happened the same way. I also reinstalled the game files but the issue persisted. Though most of the crashes occurred on my desktop, the crash persisted on my laptop so I included the DxDiag logs for it too. My desktop has been known to have cpu crashes occasionally late game (like post 1936), but they feel very different from these crashes. My laptop however has better specs and has never had crashing issues with the game before.

Had to give up including the desktop file. Successfully uploaded it as a zip, but my computer flagged it as malware when I downloaded it to check. Not gonna risk including it due to that cause god only knows what my computer thought was wrong with it

I opened up a previous Russia save and played for a few years and no crashes occurred in several years of gameplay despite being later into the campaign. Normally crash within a month on the save having the issues.

System Manufacturer: LENOVO
System Model: 83DG
BIOS: NMCN22WW (type: UEFI)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-14900HX (32 CPUs), ~2.2GHz
You very likely have the CPU/bios hardware issue discussed here:

FIRST please check for an updated bios. Then please implement the “Intel Default” option in it, if present.

IF your desktop uses a gen 12-4 Intel CPU, it will have the same problem.

I updated my bios but after a week of research, could not figure out how to set the bios to using the intel default settings. I have an alienware mother board, and the settings did not match the tutorials I was seeing.

However, I finally found a solution that fixed the problem but introduced another. In my bios settings, I noticed two settings called Intel Speed Step and Speed Shift. After reading them and doing a bit of research, their purpose seemed similar to the causes of the crash. As such, I disabled both and stopped crashing. However, my game runs at a snails pace now. On speed 5, my game is running at around the speed it used to on speed 3.

Well, I'm glad the crashes stopped, but I can't help wiith configuring any individual bios I'm afraid! Beyond my knowledge or experience. Note however that you may well experience some slower performance with the changed settings due to using lower voltages to avoid the corruption that triggers the crashes. But yours sounds too much of a change.

Perhaps the every-helpful @FieryHero can chime in here; failing that please contact your manufacturer for help with their bios config options. If there's any indication your CPU has been physically damaged by this hardware fault, it should be replaced by them.

Good luck!

It stopped working unfortunately. My CPU is barely exceeding 50% and my fan is making no noise but the game is still just dying randomly. I just don't get it, I've had almost 3 dozen crashes since the 28th.

Was able to get passed the crashes again. That's the thing I really don't get about this. It seems like the game gets stuck in a loop of crashing from certain saves. Like I kept crashing within a minute of loading my May and April saves, but had no issues from my March save.

I don't really have any more to add I'm sorry; we know this behaviour isn't a game bug or everyone would get it, including the developers and QA.

Aside from contacting your manufacturer as I suggested, you could post in that thread I linked before; others aside from @FieryHero may be able to help with specific bios settings there.

Intel's 13th and 14th gen chips had (and still have if you dont update your bios) issues regarding voltage input and requests. They apparently request too much voltage and subsequently get damaged because of it, I suggest you RMA your chip and get a replacement.

Also make sure you are running the latest version of your BIOS before installing the new chip to prevent this one getting damaged. On my platform (ASUS) the update changes the defaults so you dont have to do much. Check to see if this is true for you as well.
