I came back to the game recently and seem to be having the same issues I saw at launch with the game being impossible to actually finish. It starts crashing at the autosave points around the 1890s (though not always the same one). I'm not particularly computer-savvy but looking through some threads on the Steam discussion board I found the error in the Windows Event Viewer. Problem is, I don't know what this means:

Faulting application name: victoria3.exe, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x641a0b26

Any help would be appreciated! I'd love to finally be able to finish just one game of this at least.

Is this crash repeatable from a given save game file, AND there are no mods involved, AND it was started after the most recent patch 1.8.2 ?

If all those are "yes", please make a new thread in Bug Reports and post the save file there for QA to look into.
