I just tried to upgrade some battleships, 8 to be exact, at the cost of 0 (was changing some turrets/sidegrade stuff).

I went to make a coffee, did a poop, came back and checked the progress, 8%.

No thank you.

We need a mod to change/customize the upgrade time, it just takes forever late game! I tried to edit FLEET_UPGRADE_TIME_COST_MULT value in defines.lua but changing the value caused my client to crash at the end of the loading bar on game startup.

What value(s) did you try? I changed it from 0.25 to 0.1 and didn't have any problems. Of course, I also didn't test that it actually did anything, not having a save at the moment with ships that need upgrading, but ...
 
I fixed it using a different text editor, but in my small scale test it didn't have an effect in game. I'll test again with a different fleet, i'm literally timing it to the second.
 
That's unfortunate. I've run into a couple things that unfortunately don't do anything either. I'm not far enough into a game yet to have a big fleet for it to bother me. Emphasis on yet.
 
DERP, have to start a new game, however changing it does work, pity it won't effect my old save, nevermind, It will improve my experience next time I play !

Its based on your size of your fleet. If you would have done each battleship one at a time it would have been a lot faster.

I've edited this with no problems, set mine to variously 0.25, 0.05 and 0.03
It will work with a save game, but not an existing fleet update, cancel the update of the fleet and re-update and see the difference.
(At least that is what I did)
