Hello,

Is it possible to add the Angevin Empire in LI? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angevin_empire

The empire would encompass Neustria, Normandy, Brittany, Aquitaine (what is defined as a kingdom in LI), Vasconia/duchy of Gascogne, and what is defined as the Britannia Empire. All these would be the requirements to form the Angevin Empire, except maybe that in Britannia you would only need to rule over the territories that form present day England (or nothing in Ireland, Wales and Scotland). I understand that there may be problems with having 2 parent De Jure ties, but maybe there could be some workarounds for that. It may be fine to not add anything in Britannia as a De Jure tie with the Angevin Empire IF it is still possible to make them a requirement to forming the empire. Ideally, you would then want some event that would give you a claim on those territories to simulate the De Jure claims you would have when you're the emperor/empress.

I think it would be great for those who start playing in the Frankish territory and wish to expend their rule over the islands and form an empire that is not Britannia.

Thanks!

I think that a Angevin Empire wouldn't make sense, because LI is totally different from RL history.

And after a few years under a Kingdom/Empire, a duchy can switch to such Empire, i think.

Yeah, the Angevins aren't even in game; Anjou is ruled by some generic house d'Anjou (though we can assume it's some kind of cadet Capet-Anjou house, seeing as the Capets rule in Neustria). In Jerusalem, there's "Robert de Boulogne", who we can assume is some kind of alternate Baldwin I of Jerusalem, Baldwin's father was count of Boulogne and the Crusades started earlier in Lux Invicta.

Anyway, the rise of the Angevins is tied to the Norman conquest of England. There hasn't been a Norman conquest of England in LI so we can assume the Angevins are still an unimportant or minor house.

That said, if you want to make your own titular Angevin empire and have it in a separate mod, that's fine. Look at some of the titles in common/landed_titles/titular_titles if you don't know how to set one up.

Not so generic, as Foulques d'Anjou is in the game, if I remember correctly. It's the name of the founder of the Maison d'Anjou (he conquered a lot of territories and established the domination of his family in the Loire.). So I think that at some time it was intended to give the House of Anjou some importance in Lux Invicta. Thence to integrate the Angevin empire... That's an other question.

EDIT: the Foulques in game is probably an alternative Foulques IV, father of Foulques V who founded the Angevin Empire with Normandy, Bretagneand Aquitaine, and then Jerusalem...

Didn't notice the name... and didn't recognize it, it appears as just "Fulco" in most history books I own (this hispanization of everything... :p). Anyway, he could be any of the 5 Foulques that were rulers of Anjou other than the founder. My guess is that this is Foulques IV, since he lived around 1066.

Thanks for that tip.

I am not yet that familiar with LI's alternative timeline, so it was indeed more of a personal desire than a request to actually add it to LI.

I'm not sure it's a hispanization... Foulques is the correct orthography according to the old french rules (-es is a nominative), but Fulco is probably just an alternative writing for the same word (the "o" in the dialects of the Loire was pronounced like a "e" as it's written in Foulques, that's to say: the sound ɘ), and I'm not sure there still was a "s" in this place. It's rather likely that people pronunced it in both ways, even in Anjou. Also, Fulco is the correct germanic form (and despite the appearances, it's an old germanic name), so the firsts Foulques (who spoke more frankish than "roman" (proto-french)) were probably called Fulco while "Foulques" is the romanized form of Fulco that became later predominant.
