Please allow for your poorer customers. I love Stellaris, but I've had to go on disability and can no longer afford my own internet. IDK if tthere is a way to pause a download of the Paradox launcher and then restart it next day without breaking the whole thing; but I couldn't figure out how to find it if there is. And I had a similar problem with another game (from a different company) I own on GOG. -- It was downloading an update; the store closed and I had to abort it, and now the game's so broken it will neither finish the installation, allow me to restart the installation. allow me to play, or let me get at it to reinstall except by re-buying the game and starting from scratch.

IDK if that WILL happen with Paradox games/Stellaris, but I'm really afraid it will. And I almost had to find out today; the download of the Paradox installer finished with literally thirty seconds left before the clerk who had already closed the coffee shop literally threw me out onto the street.

I don't know how the Paradox Launcher does things but Steam surely supports what you are asking for. I close/shutdown my computer all the time mid-download without issues.
So in case you already have the games on Steam (which would be the "default" store for Paradox games, ie when buying a game on Paradoxplaza it is a Steam key) just use Steam instead of the Paradox Launcher.

That may just be the problem, thank you! I did not get this game through Steam, in fact I had never heard of Steam until I started playing this game. I got it through my GOG account using their GOG Galaxy client, which then installed the Paradox client.

Just as a curmudgeonly IMHO, all this business would be avoided if we didn't have to go through this bull of the game distributior's game management software installing the game company's game management software that then installs the game. All I want to do is play the game; why can't I just install the GAME?! I don't care about all this social business that seems to me the main reason why the default standard these days seems to be that you have to install three programs in order to play one game.... a serious memory burden on poor people's older computers

With the GoG version you install the game from their client Galaxy. Any pause or resume option in the game installation process would be up to them.

If you are running our launcher in standalone mode, you shouldn't! Stellaris is not supported any more on that platform and recent patches and DLCs are not available there.

All the best!

As @AndrewT points out, there should be no more Stellaris downloads for the standalone launcher (at least until the game team picks up support again). However! Due to other reasons - mainly large mod updates - this is a feature we are actually working on. It'll be some time before it materializes though, so I can't give you a timeline!
