One thing that's really annoying me at the moment is the micro-management you have to do with power lines each time you add a new part of your city not adjacent to any existing buildings (ie. part of the power grid) that you have to run power lines all the way through it so that the starting buildings get the power they need. This could be fixed by making streets act/carry power lines too, similar to SC2013 and the real-world (in Western Europe at least). If a modder is up to the task, I'd love to see something like this.

While I respect the fact that you want this as a mod, I think the electrical lines are cool in the game. It's not that big of a deal to micro manage electrical lines and adds some fun to the game if you ask me. I see some streamers going crazy with the lines thinking they have to put them all over a zoned area... What I do is just wait until I see some growth in the area and then run one line to that blue area and usually that takes care of the rest.

This is how it works in real life though, Capn.

I'd like lower tier roads like dirt roads to have power lines on the sides of them, basically adding another type of road similar to the median/tree roads that would have power lines lining them.

The micro management of Electrical Pylons is nothing compared to the idiocy of dragging water pipes around. I remember this in an early Sim City game, which was removed in later versions for good reasons. Personally I would like both Power lines & water pipes to be placed when roads are built or they are next to buildings currently supplied, & I would go back to the system of putting the cost for these into the zoning as in earlier city builders.

They were there in sc2k you may be thinking of sc3k though, they came back (and rightfully so) in sc4.

40m high power lines are not used to connect individual buildings in a new real estate development, but you have to do that in CSL if you want it to grow quickly. In much of Europe houses and buildings are powered through underground power cables, so why can't I want that in my game too?

Strangely I like building water pipes. It's quick and requires less precision than in SC4 or the power lines from CSL.

You can think that the blue area which you connect by powerlines is made by underground power cables. That´s how think so i don´t think we need underground powerlines or powerlines under the roads

People have no patience...just draw out the power lines and then delete them when the zones fill in. And about it not being "real" to connect 40m high lines with two buildings. Last time I checked, the game you were playing wasn't real at all. And if it means anything, the bubble of power that is formed around an area could account to the "underground power lines" concept.

People throw around SC2013 like it helped revolutionize the gaming industry, in some way. It just showed us how idiotic it was to create an agent system for power, whose pathfinding took too long to work its way from the power station to one unpowered house. Watching any of the power plants in-game just magically power up your city from afar via underground power would probably be the most unrealistic thing I've ever seen, imho. The power lines are fundemantal, and they're seen zigzagging across any major country IRL.

However, the wooden poles idea would be a great alternative for smaller, more rural towns.
