Hello,

I don't know how to programme. I do know how I would use an existing game mechanic to try to produce an effect many have begged for: the farmers field.

  1. What is a farm field?
    • Usually a wheat field, maybe with some trees around it. 1st challenge is can an overlay/mask of some kind be made yellow? Seeing as the surface paintbrush mod seems to use some kind of masking, I'm assuming this is possible. So maybe we could have different shades for different "crops". The trees might be tricky, but lets get to that later.
  2. What grows around a building?
    • Pollution seems to "grow" around industrial buildings.

Therefore could farms "pollute" fields?

Once a farm is established, slowly a field will grow around it.
Challenges:
  1. Can the fields have tree lines/hedges to break up the "fields"? Does a lot have to only have one "field" or could it have multiple?
  2. Does the field of pollution field have to be circular? Why not rectangular (depending on the lot size in the first place)?
So modders: please tell me what is missing from the libraries to be able to code such a mod?

Manythanks,

Someone who was really hoping for some better mechanics....

I'm looking into making some modular farm pieces using the farmfield assets recently released on the workshop, already have some parts partly done.

2 pieces. 4 in total as you just place them in the correct position on the opposite side. Though it needs the outer edges complete, along with fence & trees. Already got an extension partially complete with tractor lines.

The next part is cutting out places for Barns, Farmhouses & Silos to fit into place, since i don't want goods to be exported from the modular farm piece, just the those specific buildings. But normally the produce from a single 4x4 building would not be enough for the area that the actual modular farm asset takes, which would mean you can use vast swathes of land with very little goods produced, using 4x4 farm buildings in a realistic fashion.

However extending the 4x4 building area to a 8x16 and using RICO, you can use 1-4 buildings that would/should export enough goods that would make up for the land area used by the modular farm pieces.

This is a great innovation. Creating realistic farm plots is currently tedious. CO should've addressed this issue a long time ago- I guess farms/agriculture just isn't "sexy" enough- a look at the dearth of user created content available on the workshop confirms this!

Most of it done, but only aesthetic for the moment, as i have not finished the buildings yet, and i have a couple of modules to finish.
