Ok we are both on version 1.02, running WinXP Home, playing over the Internet direct to IP.

We can connect and see each other. We can start new games no problem, and as long as we avoid tactical bombing (which will always cause CTD) the game runs fine.

When we save and exit we cannot get the saved game to restore. The host will see the screen, select the saved game, the flags come up, he clicks on his flag. . .all seems normal.

The other player joins and can see the host, but the message:

The host has not selected a scenario is visible, no flags, no country tag visible next to the host's name.

Every few seconds the message Counters changed to <ON> flashes up.

Next to the other player's name is a percent number (downloading the saved game no doubt) and some gobbliguck (sp?).

The number will slowly count up to 100, then go back to 0 and start over, we can NEVER get a saved game to restart!

THIS SUCKS! You CANNOT play this game in one sitting, without the ability to restore saved games in MP this game does not cut it! please Help!

Confirm

I was in that game setup mode last night with you and your partner. I had clicked in in error and saw what you described.

In addition to the problems you stated, I couldnt get out. I couldnt close down the game or get back to the valk chan screen. I tried to bag out cause it was a saved game with you and your partner, maybe my being there had something to do with it?

Doubt it, but anyway maybe someone can address how you get out of a game you entered in error. I had to cntrlaltdel, and reboot.

Thanks for the post Odin, no you being there had no effect, we had tried a dozen times previously both Internet direct IP and through the Valk. site.

If I sounded emotional in my original post sorry, we had a very good game going and we want to continue. The SU has invaded Poland from the East and Ribbentrop through some fiery correspondence got Stalin to back down and pull out! Boy I am itching to get back to it!

NP

I didnt read your post as overly emotional dude, just frustrated. Hell I could sense it last night when ya'll couldnt get the game to reboot.

Its one of the biggest negatives of an otherwise pretty awesome game. The online play has had some real probs and I hope it gets fixed.

Anyway hope you get that game back up, I got back on last night and got into a game of my own, only to have it crash to the desktop, was playing Germany, counterpart was playing Italy. Crashed early but even if it hadnt would we have been able to save?

Hoping to find a few (4-5) US players to play 1-3 times a week, organize times so on.

Sadly though if the game cant be restarted, whats the point?

A way to get around this problem

the same thing happened to me in a MP game across my LAN.

it seems that in a way the save file screws up for some unknown reason when restoring MP games.

what i did to get around this problem was:

1- the host must load the game saved file in SINGLE PLAYER game.

2- then save it immediately under another name.

3-then load a MP game but with the new file , and everything should go ok.

hope this helps.

Me and my brother have the same problem, playing over LAN. You can save your game by a new name everytime (the autosave is bugged too), that ought to take care of the problem next time

Didn't know you could fix crashed savegames, thx a lot Warman :)

Thanks for the tips, the war continues tonight!

It Works!

OKay thanks to Warman! Just open game single player, save under different file name and Viola!

As a precuation I also deleted the old save file as well as all auto-saves. It worked like a charm, now if we can get the tactical bombing bug ironed out!

The reason why you have to save under a new name is rather stupid: The zipped file does not get deleted or overwritten. Just deleted all files with the ending .bz2 and it should work.

Hey Tank Buster....

Replied to your email before I read this string. So you got a MP save game to load up?

Thats excellent and that jump starts the group. I will get things rolling sooner then later.

Later,

Odin
