The Return to AoD AAr

Game:
Vanilla AoD
Hard dif

Well. I've been away from AoD for a long time, I did a few pretty lengthy earlier AAr's involving the early AoD game. I was, still am, and always will hold AoD to be the best HoI game thusfar constructed.

For anyone who has read any of my previous AoD AAr's, they are not a novel, they are a pretty plain recounting of game events with my own comments, plans and thoughts interspersed into them.

My goal in an AAr is two things; to show the capabilities of the AoD game and the enjoyability of it shine through to people who haven't yet bought it, but also to show a playthrough to people who have the game and like seeing how others do it. A third really is for people who like the journey :D from a poor and economically crippled Italy to a superpower! for example.

Seeing as there are new patches since I last played the game, some pretty substantial! I feel I must make another effort!

I have been thinking I should do the USA. Since HoI 1 I have been reluctent to be the USA due to large periods of peace and the fairly poor pacific ai. However it has been in my experience that in AoD the Japanese put up much more of a fight.

Any ideas on who i should play?

Italy is perfect, I think.
Indeed rather limited economically, so you need to balance "IC whoring" + infra builds with making your forces. You need to secure the resources as well.
Using the economy of long serial builds will pay off, as well as investing in more quality units, from brigaded INF and MAR and MNT.
It also has a significant naval part to play.

Italy does sound good - would that be as an Axis partner or a co-beligerant of Germany that avoids going to war with other major powers, just carves out a new Empire?

Turkey might be another country to try as a challenge. Something I haven't seen an AAR on.

That said, I'm new to HoI/AoD so everything is a challenge to me at this point.

I agree Italy is a great choice, but i've done her twice, a third might become tedious. Still its a good possibility!

Turkey sounds interesting, I've tried some before. I always enjoyed trying to make a decent navy for the ottomans, failing miserably, maybe i should try once more? :D

Actually the United States does sound pretty interesting. Since you like to show how the game is played and what AoD is capable of, the long periods of peace would give you (and your readers) a chance to really explore the economic and technological sides of the game.

I think i'm going to go against the grain and agree with cat, and do the USA :D

Its one of the countrys i have rarely done and does EVENTUALLY have an all inclusive role in the war.
