Ive got to say, having become recently addicted to Victoria I was interested in looking back at EU. When I did I was suprised by how much I enjoyed that game. It so much easier, with so many fewer mouse clicks. But, I have forgotten a lot.

So, some questions.

Can you only vassalize through diplomacy? Can you not do it through war?

Besides revolters, what does Stability have an effect on?

And how many is the max for an alliance? Is it 7 ot 6?

Yes, vassalization is a diplomacy-only thing, unless you feel like editing the savefile right after a devastating war to make something your vassal.

Stability, IIRC, also affects income from your provinces, but I could be wrong. Also you can't declare war if you have -3 stab.

I wasn't aware there was a limit for alliances.

I always thought there was, which explains why with +200 relations with a neighbor I can't get them to join. For example. France, with the starting alliance (France, Savoy, PS) I then invite Helvetica, and Scotland. Later Austria joins, bringing my alliance to 6. No matter how high my relations with Bohemia are, it wouldn't join, no would some German minor whom I can't remember.

Apply murphys law here :)

No, but do you ahve a casus belli against them, or do they have a casus belli against you?

Mind you, there arecertain countries that it is extremely hard to make certain diplomatic actions to, an example: try to make a royal marriage between you and the papal states :D

Also, did you make wars recently? No country would dare join a high BB country, despite having 200+ in relations.

Technically, there's no limit to how many countries can be in an alliance. BUT , for a new member to join in, the sum of their relations (post-joining) with all current members must be non-negative. So, to use your example, if Bohemia's relations with Austria are -200 and total -1 with everyone else, they will refuse to join no matter how high relations are with France.

As to stability, it also affects population growth rates, number of merchants gained per year, and probability of success for placing merchants and colonists.

Ah, that would explain it.

Zucker: Getting a Royal Marriage with the Papal states isn't just very difficult: it's literally impossible. The Pope and the Knights are hardcoded to never agree to a royal marriage. :p

Blasphemer! *chases Philip II with a torch*

I remember reading somewhere there is a limit for player alliances.
IIRC it was 5 allies (which brings player alliance to have max of 6 members).

And IIRC that was introduced for EU2, but atm I can't swear by it ;)

This is certainly the wrong sub-forum for spamming about lack of quality in EU1 - now do as the topic does and tell us why you are returning to EU (or not) or there will be consequenses :D

Oh Nikolai, you have been moderating a dying forum and you are frustrated....i understand ;)

However, regarding alliances, The ai will not join an alliance if there are to many members (the max. is 5 in EU2)...However, and it has been a VERY (and i emphasize very) long time since i have played EU1 mp, i think they may cap. it at 5 members max. (assuming ai nations choose to actually join the alliance.)
