We all know how explorers and conquistadors work - at least I thought I did. Seems that explorers have a chance of discovering a province adjacent to a seazone being explored. Is the same true for conquistadors (i.e. discovering a seazone adjacent to a province being expored)?

Mayb because all sea provinces are already explored when you send your conquistador in?

Never seen that either.

Well, had a few games in which I had conquistadors but no explorers and via some maps discovered loads of America but never got to sea a sea zone (only knew of one way to get to America, the rest was and stayed TI)

The thing is, in my current GC I recieved my first Explorer, ever (Denmark). Note that I don't get ANY conquistadores as Denmark. I then sailed him westward using Iceland as base. I discovered new naval zones, but ALSO a few provinces, in which I was then able to set up some trading posts. So if he didn't discover them for me, I don't know who did!

Of course, it helped a lot when my spies 20 years later suddenly stole all of Englands maps! :D

Explorers do find adj. provinces next to sea zones - I've never had a conquistador discover an unknown sea zone next to a province.

To be more accurate explorers will find some of the adjacent provinces, with a chance of discovering some of the others each subsequent time you enter the sea zone. Once you discover cartography (letting you see adjacent sea zones) then you can see all provinces next to an explorer.

I've never seen a conquistador do it, but the chances of discovering a coastal province with an explorer is there every time you enter the sea lane, so if you keep running the explorer up and down the coast, each time you should discover new provinces. :)

But the conquistadors don't do the same, sorry.

Thanks a million Aino!! I needed your advice very badly because as Holland (the patch were you start in 1492 as Holland/Gelre) you get many explorers but no (at lest not yet, it's 1600 now) conquistadors..horrible to see all those islands and coasts that you are not allowed to enter because they're Terra Incognta although you can see them perfectly well!! I'll now make a route for them with the Shift key to let them cruise past the coast 5 times or so...that should give at least one of the explorers the idea there's some land.
