From what I've seen the maximum risk only occurs in three of the core provinces, even if Catholic controlled-the other two have a lower (c.20%) risk. This is still high, but not quite as killer-certain.

Those remain easy to control and were in fact provinces who united themself in the catholic league of Atrecht and stayed loyal to Spain.

True, at least that's what they learn us at school :p

I often see rev.risks of 27% in Holland, Friesen, The Hague, Zeeland & Flandres, almost every province

Definitely see two different levels of revolt risk in my games. Just writing what I'm seeing!:)

Haven't touched a drop of the stuff.
I've seen a variance in the revolt risks since game one-so there!:)

Zeeland's mean-but I often see Flanders and Friesen with a lesser rate-I've always assumed this was for historical reasons (the Catholic redoubt in the North East, and the fact that much of Flanders eventually remained under Spanish control) and it was only the occasional ahistorical control of one or two of the Provinces by Protestant of Reformed states that caused the largest revolt risks to pop up in these two.

Not that the slightly lower risk seems to really cause less rebellions!:D

In my games when I control all those provinces, the revolt risk is zero and the Dutch Nationalism percentage is only 4 per cent. That's because I always switch to Reformist right away and push the Reformist slider all the way to the right. Think someone already mentioned that.

When the AI has control of the provinces, the percentage is very high.

Do you find the benefit of keeping the Dutch provinces (and not having to pick all those Dutch trading posts out of your soup) outweighs the cost of -5 stab hit and losing all your alliances and marriages?

Which IGC option is the most ridiculous? Spain, or Austria, going Reformed just to keep half a dozen North Sea provinces?

SPAIN!:)

Austria came damn close to going Protestant, so it's only a short step to Reformed, game-wise!

The Dutch provinces are not the only reason for going Reformed, but if you already control those provinces then it has some weight in the decision. But you could also conquer them after they get independence. A better reason for going Reformed is the morale boost your troops get in combat. For a warmonger, Reformed is the only way to go.
