So, I know Tyrants can torture prisoners to get +2 Loyalty and some information on the enemy's forces, but I don't want to do that with my Rightful King Arthur. If I let them go, however, the enemy leaders just appear on the map in my conquered territory - and the game flags that territory as no longer as mine, since enemy troops are stationed there!

Tell me, what's the point of the prison mechanic for a Rightful path? Especially once you've completely conquered a kingdom, there's no point to keeping prisoners around. They won't join you. You can't execute them. If they escape, you can just re-capture them since their unit is completely stripped. What do I do with all these unit leaders sitting around, gathering dust?

I feel like the sequel King Arthur 2 should have a more complex diplomatic system... you can make and break alliances, offer captured unit leaders in trade, maybe even recruit former enemies depending on the circumstances, etc.

I’ve only been playing the game for about 2 weeks and I’m still working on my first Rightful play through, but the prisoners really seem like nothing more than ransom bait in my opinion; especially once you’ve acquired the spy related tech from the stronghold where the info from the prisoner becomes irrelevant.

Some of the ransom payments are pretty weak and may just consist of a small amount of gold or food, but it seems pretty common to be offered an item or bride on top of whatever cash/food is on the bargaining table and those are awesome even if they don’t have good stats b/c you can use them to negotiate a number of different diplomacy related situations instead of your real time food & gold supplies. I take all the items I don’t want and give them to my diplomacy/reign hero so he can go around and settle all the disputes without having to displace my 2 primary armies for the sake of settling things like uprisings, text quest events or anything that I don’t consider worthy of the primary units.

It’s kind of annoying, at times, to have to cleanup the released prisoner units since it costs movement points you could be using for something else, but it’s a bit of free experience and they’re only potentially dangerous again if they get merged into a larger army(which never seems to happen since the standing armies usually remain full). So it’s like you got free money or food, possible items/brides and experience for letting them go and the worst that could happen is you’ll likely have to stomp them out again via auto battle for zero losses. I’ve been letting the ones who aren’t offered a ransom rot in prison, but I’m not sure if that adversely affects anything vs just releasing them once their affiliated king has been defeated.
