Prologue

I am Leopold, count of Naissus.
My father is Ernst von Babenberg and my mother is some whench from county of Habsburg. For my father, and anyone else in Europe for that matter, I... simply don't exist.

Heh... When i was born my "father" sent me away. I'm not suprised really... For him a Duke, someone like me, a bastard made with a street whore.... That's something that no one should know about. The ony thing i have after my father is the catholic faith and my name.

My name is Leopold von Habsburg. Actually... I thought it up, i was raised in a catholic serbian monastery... I am a serbian... I act like one, I speak like one, I walk like one, once again I am a serbian. And yet i have a german name. I think i kept it as a... reminder. Of where I come from and where i have been born.

After i "departed" from the monastery i became a thief. Plain and simple... I was able to make it into any locked place, get any needed information. I am a thief or as the nobles call it a spy. And it looks like some people found my "talents" valuable. On of the Byzantine dukes has granted a fief. And so i am, 19 years old bastard without a real name, a man who escaped the monastery and made a lot of people on the balkans a lot less wealthy.

My name is Leopold von Habsburg, and this is a story of me and my succesors.

Chapter 1 : Arrival

I was in a tavern having a "interesting" conversation with a lady when two soldiers burst in to the inn. A quick thought... No, I haven't done anything illegal yet. So I continued my conversation but apparently I did something after all. So they dragged me off and I landed in a less pleasant place in Vidin. Actually, the whole town isn't pleasant but that was definetely the least pleasant place in it. The jail. So beaten up,( Sighing and putting your hands in front of you clearly means you're reaching for a weapon, It mean it couldn't mean i want to surrender now could it?) I had to spend the night in a cell instead of tavern room filled with roaches. Well i shouldn't complain, after all you Can talk with rats but Vidin roaches don't seem to be fun.

In the morning i was dragged to the duke's room ( Again the thought that the prisoner Can walk by himself was an absolute nuissance to them ) The almighty greek Duke looked at me with disgust probably beacause of Rat dung all over my clothes. After a while he spoke :

Are you the one that call himself Leopold fon Hapspurg?
It's pronounced von Habsburg my liege.
Yes, whatever. I have a proposition for you.
And what that proposition might be, almighty? - My good manners seemed to upset him.
You can choose between :
A death for your crimes or service to me.
(I think the first one would be easier on me) I choose the second option my Lord.
Good, you shall be granted the fief of Naissus and shall from now one serve me as my Spymaster.
You are too good sir.
You may now go away. Oh, and one more thing. If you would try to escape you shall have assassins after you.
I wouldn't dream of escaping from your beatifull lands my lord.

And so, covered in manure I became a count. Well not officialy, the official one was a bit nicer as I had clean clothes on me.
When I arrived in Naissus it could be described in one sentence.
A wooden palisade surrounded by a few wooden houses and one of the biggest forests on the Balkans.
Ain't that nice, i immediately ordered the people of my glorious town and a vast area covered in forests to build me a house. And as they clearly feared me the a medium wooden house was constructed only 1 year after.

The first year of my... "rule" was peacefull. The "town" had about 9 serbians, 6 hungarians and one pole in it so i understood the majority of my "serfs". The only one i didn't understood was the pole... but i don't think anyone understood him. Anyway he had a big sword and seemed to be loyal to me so it didn't bother to have him here, especially that the peasants were talking that really big wolfs lived in the forest. So, as I said everything was peacefull except one event.
One day I was called by the Duke ( He sounded like he was about to pee in his pants from excitment so i guessed it was something important) When i arrived at the glorius city of Vidin ( And I must say that opposite to my town it looks even worse in winter) I found quite a suprise. A messenger from the Emperor himself came, what he said wasn't so amusing. Emperor obviously heard of my superior skill of knowing 4 languages (Latin,Serbian,Hungarian and Greek) and being a master thief because he ordered the Duke to order me to go and steal something from the seat of the other Emperor, Franken in Germany. And so i was about to make a theft of the century. Emperor ( the greek one) ordered me to steal the remains of Pope Agapetus I which was given to the Emperor ( the german one) by the pope. It was supposed to humilliliate the HRE and make Hagia Sophia a little bit more fabolous.

And so i embarked on my first mission in service of the Greek Emperor.

My arrival at Franken wasn't special really... I just marched into the city, and i can't really see why this town is so special. I mean big churches and huge castle? I wonder if the germans ever saw the Buda or Pest. Hell, even Venice and other italian cities are better than this big palace that calls itself a town.

Every person that knows the trade knows that you can't just march in and steal something. First, because you would get caught. Second, because even if you managed to steal something like that it wouldn't look good in stories. So I went with the easy way, I have managed to get to the palace disguised as a Hungarian diplomat, then it was downhill. March into the church, act like you're an religious person and an idiot at the same time, wait till they show you the crypts, use something heavy to make the priest go to sleep and take the bones.
Yes.... To bad i got caught when putting the bones into my chest..... Well you can't have everything and i finally managed to lose the germans. And so i was going to back to Serbia on a carriage with a long dead pope as my companion.

After a few days i entered the fabolous Naissus forests spanning across about half of Serbia. What can I say? It's dark and who knows what lurks in the dark?

Well so there are two thing I have to say:

1.The world is a little more forward so when it's 1067 think of it as of 1267 ok? Also there might be a few things from even further than 200 years but those will be rare.

2.I hope you like the idea to put a little fantasy into the AAR. If it really bothers you and you would like to keep it real just say and i'll stop.

Chapter 2 : Naissus

The carriage slowly rolled forward, while I was trying to keep it on the road (if you can call a lack of trees a road). The night wasn't very pleasant, especially that the only companion i had was a dead pope and i was starting to hear the wolfes, villagers were talking about.

What i saw that night was real and not just fantasy. A wolf has landed on the carriage i immidiately turned around and pointed my sword at it, what I didn't expect was for the wolf to stand up like a man.

Before i knew it i was on toe lying on the roof with that beast lying on me, I... I don't really know how i managed to get away from that damn thing but when i finally got up i tried to remember what i've been taught by one of my "companions". Strike, pirouette, another strike and block. The thing fell of the carriage with a nice scar added on it's face. I was standing for about a minute before i regained my senses. What the hell was that?! I sat back on the driver's seat and looked around. I didn't know what i wanted to see, the only thing that could be seen in the forest was my carriage thanks to the torches on the sides. And then i heard howling. And it was certainly made by few wolfs. What i hoped for is that those would be regular wolfs.

The carriage was rolling on forward a lot quicker now that horses sensed danger. Damn! I knew serbian forests were wild but that wild? Hell, I just want to get to that excuse of a town Vidin and rest. The howling finnaly stopped and i noticed
i've got a really nice wound on my arm so it really was true. God, this place is really damned. The carriage drove out of the woods leaving forests and darkness behind.

When I arrived at Vidin with the bones i got treated, the wound wasn't to serious and for my service i was awarded 30 peasants and about 10 warriors. Heh, a really big reward for almost dying. I of course didn't tell anyone what happened in the forest claiming that the wound was made when i was escaping from Germany, i still want to be considered intelligent after all.

And so i landed back at Naissus, God that name was irritating. When I arrived I saw a really big amount of ravens flying around so i changed the name of the village to Raven's Rock, I mean why not? And so i got myself a real coat of arms. A raven rising from a mountain... I think it's pretty nice.

I've also noticed that my "castle" was upgraded and now looked like a proper house.

Now that my town counted more than 10 people i had to create a council. I used some greek and hungarian idiots to fill the spots except the marshal one. I gave it to the Pole which was beggining his education to learn serbian. Everything was going well except a small itching on my wound. Well it got all better in half a month so i guess they used something special to cure it.

One thing changed however.... Always before i went to sleep i heard a distant howling. I swear if they come again they won't be lucky enough to live on.

Demokratickid - Better? If not... Tough Luck! You'll have to live with it. I didn't really plan to change it but some very complicated things happened and i lost the picture. :) So i thought that I might as well find a better one.

I'm glad you like what my twisted mind produces. I'm sorry i didn't update for so long but I was occupied with watching Monty Python. Next update coming tommorow.

Chapter 3 : Wolfs

When I awoke the next morning i felt terrible. I after i managed to get of the bed and on the floor i decided to call for help. My dear serfs have looked at me for quite a time and then they saw the scares after the wound which made some of them run away. I don't have to say i wasn't amused.

After about a hour on the really comfortable floor they decided to show up. One of them was carying a small silver cross on a string. They told i would feel better after i would put it on, I thought what the hell? I already felt like I was dying so i did what they told me, I mean it couldn't hurt more than it already did now could it?

I was wrong. When I put the "necklace" around my neck I felt like I was just thrown into a sea of fire. I think I passed out because when i awoke It was night again. But I felt better! I got out of the house and looked around. The peasants have surrounded my house with a barricade, one of them even threw a spear at me. Once again I wasn't amused by the humour of my villagers but as I felt better I decided to let him go.

And so I talked to the serfs about what they have done.

So.... What exactly have you did?
We have exorcised the unholy spirit.
I see..... I understand that it's thank to God everything good happens but could you tell me what you really did?
I speak the truth sir! The cross you're wearing is sacred. It's the cross of Dragomir.
(I think I heard about some Dragomir fellow in the monastery...) Ok. So what if I took the cross off?
You musn't do that my lord! If you would take it off the bad spirit would return!
God this is simply stupid!

As i reached for the cross so I could take it off a distant howling could be heard. - We forgot to make the rites! We must prepare a defence! - The villager i was talking to quickly turned around and spoke to the others.

The howling was getting louder. I unsheathed my sword and looked around. The serfs certainly knew what they were doing, a barricade was made around the village in less than two minutes. The howling was really loud now, there was more of them. Even more than in the forest. I looked at the cross I was holding in my hand and decided i would keep it. I looked at the forest surrounding Naissus and saw eyes. A lot of glowing disgusting eyes.

The biggest werewolf looked at his pupils. He smiled and looked at the villagers.

Those pesky little creatures forgot about the one thing that was keeping their little nest safe. Now was the time for revenge! Revenge for every brother they have killed over the years, revenge for every hunt they made to kill us....

He touched his face and grinned. - Revenge for making him look weak! - The werewolf started running and jumped over the barricade. The villagers are scared... I fead on their fear!

Leopold turned around and saw a big werewolf jumping over the barricade and sending one of the villagers to heaven with one hit. The werewolf looked at him and showed his teeth. Leopold made a defensive stance and awaited the attack. He wasn't however expecting the attack to be made with the strength of battering ram. He fell on the earth trying to defend himself from the claws of the vicious creature, but his wit and cunning never matched his martial skills. The Werewolf grabbed him by the neck and threw him towards the house. Leopold landed under his house with his sword lying at least a few metres away and tried to look at his enemy. The werewolf was slowly walking towards the young count and grinned.

To be continued.....

Good to see you start another. Looks fun.

Introduce his half step brother who was looking for him, and he saves him at the last minute, and his step brother is like a noble man and they clash between ideas, or somethign or rather, btw great aar love it :D

I'm sorry but this AAR is on hold because of a writer's block.
