A while back in April I posted a thread on this forum to vote for what I should Nation I should play in Hearts of Iron 3: The Finest Hour and what faction I should join.

https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...n-and-faction-aar-mildly-interactive.1008681/

I'm creating a new thread instead of reviving the old one. I have been busy, but I was able to get around to writing the first entry to this story. It is narrative based.

Preface:

I’m playing Hearts of Iron 3: The Finest Hour. No mods. Start Date is Jan 1st, 1936. I’m playing as Nationalist China and my goal is to join with the Comintern.

The Victory Conditions are listed below. I had to change the Victory Conditions for both the Allies and the Comintern to increase the chances of a war between the Allies and the Comintern after the Axis powers fall.

Victory Conditions:

Allies:

1. Operation Overlord.

2. Operation Torch.

3. USA is an Allied member.

4. Luxembourg is not Axis nor Comintern.

5. Paris is not Axis nor Comintern.

6. Bruxelles is not Axis nor Comintern.

7. Italy is not Axis nor Comintern.

8. Berlin is not Axis nor Comintern.

9. Poland is Allied member.

10. Belgium is an Allied member.

11. Greece is an Allied member.

12. Norway is an Allied member.

13. Bulgaria is an Allied member.

14. Romania is an Allied member.

15. Japan is not Axis nor Comintern.

Axis:

1. Operation Sealion.

2. Operation Barbarossa.

3. Axis Controls Moskva.

4. Axis Controls Stalingrad.

5. Axis Controls Leningard.

6. Axis Controls London.

7. Axis Controls Paris.

8. Axis Controls Gibraltar.

9. Axis Controls Malta.

10. Axis Controls Singapore.

11. Axis Controls Honolulu.

12. Axis Controls Manila.

13. Axis Controls Batavia.

14. Axis Controls Shanghai.

15. Axis Controls Port Moresby.

Comintern:

1. Operation August Storm

2. Poland is a Puppet.

3. Finland is a Puppet.

4. Romania is a Puppet.

5. Denmark is in the Comintern.

6. Norway is in the Comintern.

7. Greece is in the Comintern.

8. Turkey is in the Comintern.

9. Comintern controls Frankfurt.

10. Comintern controls Munchen.

11. Comintern controls Toyko.

12. Comintern controls Hong Kong.

13. Spain is part of the Comintern.

14. Czechoslovakia is part of the Comintern.

15. Mexico is part of the Comintern.

My goal is to either complete the Victory Conditions before Jan 1st, 1948, or have the Comintern have more victory points than the other alliances by Jan 1st, 1948.

My original plan for writing this story was to be meticulous. However, given the scale of this game, it would be impossible to do and too boring. I did a few test runs with countries like Turkey, Nationalist Spain, Poland, and a little bit of Nationalist China to give me a feel of how I would play Nationalist China over all. I originally played until the middle of 1936 for National China, but I didn’t realize that when I loaded up the file I saved, that the Prepare for War event still wasn’t in effect as my IC was above the trigger. In other words, I had to start over.

Finally, I will be taking certain liberties with the story. It will just make it easier for me to write the story instead of trying to do research on every tiny thing. Thanks.

Entry #1 Prepare for War

December 31st, 1935.

A figure cloaked in the shadow of the night ran through the narrow streets of Nanking. Its footsteps splashed the puddles of water that was on the streets. As the figure passed by the houses that lined the street, they were dark. However, its destination wasn’t any ordinary house. No. Its destination was the Capital building itself. As the figure approached the Capital building, they could see the faint glow of candle lights from the windows. The figure mumbled, “The power is out, just like I was told.” Normally, the four towers at each corner of the Capitol building would have their search lights on, but without power, the guards had to use alternative means like the light from the Moon and flashlights. The figure kept running passed the houses until he saw the river to his right. He rushed toward the river and put a small plastic tube into his mouth, and he jumped into the water. He swarmed to the bottom of the river. The tube he put into his mouth had a filter at the front of it; it allowed him to breath under water. Guards heard the splash and a few ran over with their flashlights to comb the area.

“Nothing,” one of them said.
“It must be a child throwing rocks in the river,” the other replied.
“At this hour?” he remarked. They returned back to their posts, and the third member of their group followed back, but he had a feeling that something was up.

A few minutes had passed. The figure from before was still swimming back at the bottom of the river toward the Capitol building. At the same time, clouds in the night sky had moved in front of the moon, blocking out some of the moonlight. As this was going on, the third guard from before was in the middle of a conversation with the other two guards.

“I’m just saying, I think we should alert the other guards.” The first guard sighed.
“Look, we have been over this before. There is no way anyone could swim up the river to the Capital building and assassinate Chiang Kai-shek in his bed.”
“Maybe it was someone from the future,” he replied back.
“And maybe the United States of America will put a man on the moon. Seriously now, your mind needs to cool it with the weird thoughts you have.” The second guard nodded.
“I might have thought that a child was out throwing rocks into the river, but I learned to accept that my hypothesis didn’t make much sense. You need to learn the same thing.” As they were bricking, their commanding officer marched over to them.
“And what are you three doing? Your mouths are flapping, but your eyes aren’t keeping a look out. Get back to your posts!” He turned around to leave, but the third guard called out to him,
“Sir, I believe that someone, as we speak, is currently swimming up the river to the Capital building whereby he will assassinate Chiang Kai-shek, sir,” normally the commanding officer would publicly punish a subordinate who dared question his authority, but tonight he was bored. He figured he would humor him. It should keep him entertained until he was relieved of duty.
“Oh no, say it aren’t say. I guess we better call for the other guards on duty. Come on now, let’s go.” The Commanding officer and the guard rushed to the newest phone, which was inside the Capitol building. The lobby was lined with lit candles, the lobby as large enough to hold two medium size tanks. The commanding officer picked up the phone that was in a booth, and he attempted to dial the other guards and even contact the operator.
“Strange, the phone is dead. It is almost like we have no power. Huh,” the commanding officer dusted his hands off and walked away, “I guess there is nothing we can do now.” The guard cut in front of the commanding officer.
“Sir, pardon the rudeness, but what if we go directly to Kai-shek’s room and see if someone is climbing up the wall?” It would be bad to wake up Kai-shek up, but usually around this time, like clockwork, Kai-shek was going to the bathroom. The commanding officer and the guard ran up the stairs to Kai-shek’s room. The walls in the stairwell and the walls in the hallway were all lined with lit candles. The guard tried turning the knob, and opening up the door, but it wouldn’t budge. The guard frantically banged on the door with his fist, but to no avail. With all the banging on the door, Kai-shek made his way back to his room to see a guard banging on his door, and the commanding officer watching with an amused look.

“What is God’s name is going on here!?”
“Oh, nothing. Just that my subordinate thinks that someone is swimming up the river and is currently trying to climb up your window to assassinate you.”
“You mean the one that is polluted?
“Yup.”
“The one that is near freezing at this moment?”
“ Yes.”
“The one that would require holding your breath longer than humanly possible?”
“That’s the one.”
“You,” he looked directly at the guard’s eyes, “I would have you executed, but I’m going to leave you with a warning as I just want to get to bed.” He removed the key from his pajamas’ pocket and he unlocked the door. As he opened the door, they saw fingers holding onto the frame of the window. Seconds later they saw a figure pull themselves up. It was only when they had half their body into the room did they notice the other three individuals staring back at them.

“Yo,” the figure replied. Clearly a man.
“Yo? What type of Chinese is that?” asked Kai-shek.
“Uh, Modern Chinese,” the man replied. Kai-shek leaned toward to the commanding officer and whispered,
“When I rule all of China, please remind me to outlaw the word Yo before it becomes popular in all of China.” The commanding officer nodded in response. The man finished climbing into the window and removed his wetsuit. Under his black wetsuit was a button-up shirt and denim jeans. He lifted up and his shirt and under it was a brown envelope that was partially stuffed in his jeans. He pulled it out and waved it around into front of the three men.
“I have come to develop this to you;” he placed it on a nearby table stand, “in it contains detail information on the Japanese when they declare war on July, 1937. Use this information well, but we warned, do not treat this as a bible. Events will change which will force you to react to new information that I will not be able to provide. After this point, there is no way for anyone to know how things will play out until they do.” The three men stared at him in disbelief. “I understand you don’t believe me, but I will make a prediction that will come true. Within thirty minutes of me leaving, the power to the Capitol building will turn back on. It was originally believed to take a week to find and fix the issue, but by chance, it will be discovered soon.” He was able to leave through the window when he made one final comment, “Don’t try and find me. After this point, you will never find me. Don’t waste your time.” With that, he jumped out the window. The three men rushed to the window to see if he could be stopped, but he seemed to disappear as quickly as he had appeared.

“Damn, he got away! Come on, private, time to get the other guards,” they were about to rush out the door when Kai-shek stop them.
“Forget it! He said we won’t be able to find him. Let’s worry about the task at hand.” The other two men were stunned back his remark.
“S-Sir, you can’t be serious. You aren’t going to believe him?”
“Not a word of it,” he placed his hand on the envelope, “but I needed an excuse to invade my neighbors for a long time.”
“I see, Sir. What do you want to do now?” asked the Commanding Officer.
“Bring the Generals, Admirals, and the Air Marshals to the meeting room as soon as possible. I will inform them that my informant has finally arrived with information on the Japanese.”
“Yes, Sir,” they said in unison. They both left and went around informing the military commanders to report to the meeting room. As the man said, the lights came on thirty minutes later. Kai-shek was around in the meeting room dressed in his military attire. Over time the men shuffled into the room. As the meeting room wasn’t designed to hold so many people at the same time, many of the men were forced to stand instead of take a sit, and some were forced to stand in the hallway and peek over the shoulders of the other men. After it appeared that everyone was there, Kai-shek cleared his throat.

“Men, I have invited you at this hour as I received important information from my informant on the Japanese. They have plans to invade us by spring of next year.”
An Admiral responded, “It’s a trap!” A General responded,
“I agree. None of us were aware of this informant, and it might be a deception by the Japanese.”
Kai-shek said, with a smirk, “He certainly wouldn’t be a good informant if people knew about him. Furthermore, Japan has a history of being aggressive. They did conquer Korea a few decades back, and they control part of China.”
“But what if Japan attacks somewhere differently than what is in the report?” an Air Marshal replies.
“I guess if you wish to keep your positions of power, you will react accordingly.” There was some minor grumbling, but most of the men were quiet. He waited for the minor grumbling to end before continuing. “If there are no further comments on the matter, then” he stood up from his chair, “prepare for war!”

Welcome back Mortal Phoenix! Sounds like you have made some wise adjustments to help with the game and the story - good luck with the reboot. I’ll be following :)

[PS: nice plot device to explain away the foreknowledge of events leading up to 1937. Good to see you’ll be using a bit of humour for this story. :D]

Well that was a fun introductory scene.

Let us see what they can do, though the idea of Nat China joining Cominterm is a bit amusing.
