The Door of the World
The Year starts late this time around, as the conquest of the Aztecs made a Council almost impossible to convene before the war was over. As such, this year starts on the 25 of January. Well, troops are called up in the Capitol, to be sent to the Adventurers at the farthest reaches of known land. I hope they reach the Adventurers in good time. The first thing that each chief does, after leaving the Council, is send out their colonists and traders. Chief of the Mohawk sends his settlers to Bangor, and everyone in Mohawk wishes them the best of luck. The Chief of the Tuscarora sends settlers to Nova Scotia, and everyone knows that any who follow Big Floppy Donkey Dick must be well suited for survival. The Chief of the Oswego sends settlers out, to Santee, despite claims that the natives there are very unsavoury characters. We can only hope the best for the settlers. The Chief of the Shenandoah sends settlers to Savannah, and much is expected of this. As well, Chief of the Irondekoit attempts to increase his hold on Kebec by sending another group of settlers there. Chief of the Chesapeake sends a trader to Bayou, and the Confiscated Colonist, taken from the old Chief of the Onondaga, is sent to Chicoutimi. And now, we can get into the meat of the year…
Troops of Manhattan march for Adirondack, so that they may suppress the tribes there, and ensure the safety of their traders. Elders are appointed in Manhattan, and Fur Collectors are appointed in Tuscarora and Delaware. This is good, as any increase in supplies can only benefit the Confederacy.
Huron and the other Adventurers all send messages via VFCHS, and tell me they shall send word of any major discoveries, but due to the distance, it may be a while before it reaches my eyes. Unfortunate, if only there were a way to communicate instantaneously, it would make my job as chronicler much easier. Well, let it not be said that I, Blows on Jugs, am one to flinch from adversity. I shall note down the goings on, and ensure our nation knows of the history of our peoples…
Feb 19 1494
Word comes from the forces engaged in Adirondack. They have begun battle with the tribes there, and will report when they have victory.
March 25 1494
I receive word from Blind Elephant and White Wolf. It seems they have a bit of bad luck in some strange places. White Wolf writes of a place called Tallahassee, and how the tribes there were hostile from the outset. White Wolf killed many a hostile warrior, losing a few men in the process, and he headed west, following the route that Huron-Who-Charges-With-Pants-On-His-Head had taken. Blind Elephant, perhaps growing sick of tailing White Wolf, heads south, but encounters tragedy for the natives in Seminole. He had reached there, and before even having a chance to speak, the tribes attacked him. He slaughtered them all, but vowed to move on.
Today we also receive word of the various expeditions. There is success in:
Bangor, Chicoutimi, Carolina, Santee, Savannah, Nova Scotia, Bayou and Anticosti. But bad news from Rio Grand, Kebec and Roanoke. Well, there is always next year, no?
April 4 1494
It seems a party has broken off from Huron, a group of Aztec warriors who want to do things their own way. They travel to Tehuacan, and slaughter everyone there. Although it is not condoned by Huron, it is thought that this might be a help for future settlements. We will await the exploits of this group, who call themselves the “Second Wind of Huron”.
May 2 1494
Failure in Adirondack. Could this be the end of Manhattan’s luck? The first time they have failed an attempt at settlement. Much praying to the Great Spirit is done, and hope for next year flows.
May 23- June 5
Well, this “Second Wind of Huron is efficient. They slaughter natives in Campeche, and engage hostile warriors in Yucatan. Meanwhile, Blind Elephant arrives in Everglades, and is attacked without provocation. He wins the battle, and heads west again, following the routes of White Wolf and Huron-Who-Charges-With-His-Pants-On-His-Head.
December 31
Well, we receive no word from any of the Adventurers until this day( actually, it was 2 days ago, but I had to sort it all out…)
It seems that I-Want-You-Tecumseh-This is suffering from severe cold in the provinces along the northern reaches. He complains of a lack of furs, and how his men are dying off so quickly. He is hoping that new settlements may go up there, if only to allow him a place to warm up.
Huron-Who-Charges-With-His-pants-On-His-Head has traveled far. He has passed a place called “Cupica” and heads South still. Where will he end up next? It is anyone’s guess.
Azure of the White Sea, using the ships of the Delaware Tribe, found the lands of the Beothuks, in a province called Wabana. He also laid claim to Isle Royale, and he hopes to soon have some new lands to call his own.
Blind Elephant has met with stiff resistance wherever he went, as not one tribe that he met offered their services, instead, they all attacked Blind Elephant, and so, it is curious what Blind Elephant’s response will be.
White Wolf also met with stiff resistance, and did not have any luck gaining more troops. It seems as though, although the two great Generals f the Confederacy are known for their compassion and fierceness in battle, some tribes must learn this the hard way. Oh well…
And so, yet another Council begins, and word comes that the King himself shall give a very special gift to the Chiefs this year.
