Hey gang,

Not sure if this thread already exists, but thought it would be nice for us to share websites (or YouTube videos) that provide history on Rome and other ancient powers, to help us become more immersed in the game's time period.

For instance, here's a general history of Rome, broken down into visual maps and explanations:

Not so much a site, but The Emperors of Rome podcast is really good IMO. It's made by Dr Rhiannon Evans and Matt Smith. Dr Evans has such a fantastic grasp of the era, and she is so very, very pleasant to listen to!

Can't recommend enough. The episodes are quite short, which is great since I can fit one in when doing the dishes or other household chores that needs to be done in order to play I:R in peace.

Check it out:

Not specifically Rome, but plenty of Rome and other ancient world questions have been asked and answered on AskHistorians, which has a higher academic standard than many colleges.

A book instead of website, but I very much enjoyed Mary Beard's SPQR, which tells the history of republican and early imperial Rome, with an emphasis on clearing common misconceptions. It is very readable and can be found for pretty cheap.

Would love to visit them all one day. And then cap it off with a tour of Italy as well.

Would be very cool to follow the old roman roads on foot, as far as it's possible.

Which leads me to this. Really good resource for seeing all that's worth to see:

Some have already recommended the Hellenistic Age Podcast in other threads. I thought I'd put it here too:

Good coverage of the Hellenistic world and its surroundings in 30-60 minutes format.
That one is really good. I'm also a huge fan of the History of Rome, in a similar format.
