With regards to "flooded it with bishoprics", Plus does allow you to remove excess temples without razing.
Ah yes I had forgotten that.

i don't always restore roman empire, but when i do, my capital is not rome.
The walls of Constantinople are amazing. Why the heck would you give that up in favour of Rome which has no amazing walls?

Beside, Constantinople is AMAZING, why would you want to leave it just for Rome?

Forget about the wall, focus on trade route instead, you got a province that had FOUR trade route, one of them being silk road, which means two trade hq, and the piling bonus for the custom house, you'll be filthy rich you'll forget about Rome

Thrace > Latium, nuff said

sicily is also a better capital than rome. not as good as byzantium, but better than rome. plus, you don't have to deal with the pope.

oh i'm the pope, kingdom of heaven is for the poor, give me more land, latium is mine. mine MINE!!!

i always forget about the pope, for some reasons.
i always felt the chalcedonian mechanic is annoying at best, and broken at worst, so i generally always return to hellenism everytime i play as byzantines. sure, he will declare crusade every now and then, but if you can conquer and consolidate greece and anatolian into your forces (very easy in early bookmarks), you can stand up against the entire christian world if necessary, and if you can conquer italy in the process, you are basically invincible.

btw, anyone else being bothered by the viceroy title of roman province? consul? really? what's wrong with exarch?
