Greetings,

In my campaign with Carthage, Rome expanded through Europe and became a great power, however in one of its disputes with another superpower, Egypt, it was conquered very quickly, suddenly and completely and I cannot understand how it happened. How was it possible? Has something similar happened to any of you?

Maybe the war was fought with an Imperial Challenge wargoal? Those can see huge swathes of land gobbled up quickly.

I've never seen Egypt even have a war of substance with Rome in many games. I mean, sometimes Rome conquers Egypt I guess. More often if they fight at all its in Greece/Macedon/Asia Minor. But, since this happened, I'd guess imperial challenge casus belli as well since I can't see how Rome would just go "poof" otherwise.

Wow how the heck did AI Egypt manage to do that?

To answer your question like other said it's probably Imperial Challenge CB (total war, territory will flip the moment it's occupied), can only use to target Major Power or Great Power.

Though I still wonder how did AI manage to do it quickly? Cuz currently I'm attempting that against Rome and well let just say I hate playing wack a mole with their army especially when their army if sufficiently amass are strong enough that I can't just slap carpet siege on all of my army and call it a day lol

Sometimes AI declares war when hes troops are stuck on some lost island , navy gets wiped in the meantime so it loses the transport capability and loses entire war without losing a single battle.

Thank you for your answers. I really did not know that you could do that. This game has surprised me again.
For your information it's unlock by invention in oratory, winning land by spear, the bottom left one.

Or in special case like at the start for diadochi states against each other, they will lose access to cb after first ruler die.

I can imagine this happen to legion but even levy that they only seem to raise when they are in war too?

I had one situation when Roman entire army was black flaged on corsica when my spartans ware on mainland italy . Did won the war without a single bullet fired cause levy got disbanded how they lost the ground.
