OK.... Which one did you use, the uninstall/reinstall(post 4) option or the regedit(post 6)?
 
I'm asking this question because I don't know your tech knowledge and to make sure that you changed the right value.

I assume you followed the instructions exactly and changed the value in this location only:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis - Rome

and the value:
VaeVictis from '2.1' to '2.0'.

Then installed the patch?

If yes to the above, a couple more questions.
1. Was the game working OK before?
2. What operating system do you have? XP/Vista/Windows 7, other?
3. What folder is the game installed in (the default location or another folder)?
4. Are you getting the message after the game has fully loaded and in the main menu; or as it's loading before the main menu?
 
I'd rather not use regedit to fix that myself. I have the same problem, I have EU:Rome Gold which I got from gamersgate and the patcher won't work because it sees I haven't got Vae Victis (which I do obviously as I have Rome Gold and I have tried the beta patches fine before this).

EDIT: The same problem as described in the first post that is.
 
value is at 2.0 now was 2.1 before i made the edit

1. yes game worked fine was just playing last night.

went to play today and saw there was an update so i tried to update.

2. windows xp

3. default

4. getting msg while it is trying to update. I get three bars into installation then I get that error.
 
OK, I had a look through the web, and it looks like...
DeleteFile failed; code 5. Access is denied​
...might be caused by the program being used by another program.

Try restarting your computer and trying the installer again. Also make sure you are running as the Administrator.

tried that and got the no vv again tried going to 2.0 then got the same access denied code 5 again.

thanks for trying to figure this out. will try again after work tomorrow.

Same problem.
My game is registred, and I close the launcher at due time.
Question: when this problem happened before, was the patch corrected? Or will I have to do some editing anyway?

thanks alot just before I started install I closed the launcher and it installed everything fine. I kept the change from 2.1 to 2.0 in the regedit. when I tried it.
