While playing Rome patch 1.3 , It works well for the first couple of months after I open a saved file, but it always freezes. Sometimes it lets me play for about 2 years and then it freezes and other times it just plays for a month and then freezes at the end of month. It also freezes when I get some notifications like a revolt or the loss of a governor. The only thing that works afterward is ctrl alt delete. Ive tried putting it in compatibility mode and in administrator, I allso have the direct X that comes with the game although i found out that my computer has direct x 10 and while trying to downgrade it it says that i cant because direct x 9 dosent run on vista, althoug i tried installing a directx 9 setup and it worked so i dnt knowif that could be it or not. I allso have the newest driver for my graphics card also service pack 1 for vista.
Here are the files that i was told to upload =

here is the system.log file :

If the game runs at all you have DX 9 installed OK, don't worry about that.

First let's try a complete reinstall. First move any valued save games elsewhere. Then uninstall the game, and then manually delete the game directory - this is important. Reinstall Rome - if you use Vista, it's best to choose a new directory like c:\games\rome instead of the suggested path. Then apply the 1.3 patch over Rome.

If that doesn't help, you may have an overheating problem. Please report both CPU and video card temperatures 1/ before you start the game and 2/ when it crashes. If you don't have a way of seeing temperatures, Google for and install SPEEDFAN.

I uninstalled Rome and re-installed it in c:\games\Rome and I installed the 1.3 patch and speedfan, but I dnt know excactly how to read the info that is given in speedfan, so please let me know what excactly is it that i have to write here from the program so that you can help me.

I don't have an actual PC running right now so I can't install Speedfan and check this for you, maybe someone else can chime in here. Basically it should list devices in your PC like CPU1, CPU2, AUX (which is usually video) and so on, and the temperature next to each.

Ok well after re-installing the game it was working fine, but now it started crashing again. Same as last time its starts crashing after ive conquered about double the amount of provinces that i had at the begining (Im playing the first scenario) and afterwards it starts crashing. I have speedfan and its on but I dont know exactly which parameters are the ones I need to report so Im just going to write here what is written before and after the game crashes.

Before: GPU: 51C Core0: 21C Core1: 21C
After: GPU: 78C Core0: 21C Core1: 21C

Allso almost everytime the game crashes is either after an autosave or after i get a notification of a Spartacus revolt. Please any help would be greatly appriceated.

Also I dont think that Ive mentioned that I play the game on a laptop and since Ive realized that my computer does overhea a bit I am going to get one of those cooling pads that you put the laptop on. Another thing is that I have the game running on emulation mode for windows xp servicepack 2 and it works til it crashes, but if i try to play it in emulation and as administrator then I dont have my save files and I dont understand why, again any help would be greatly appriciated. thank you.

Here are the temperatures that speedfan gives me when I start using my laptotp after leaving it in sleepmode for 8 or more hours:
GPU: 42C Core0: 15C Core1: 15C
Also after seeing this I noticed that after ive been playing the game for a while or after it crashes when the temperature is around 50C or more it has a small icon on the left of the temperature that looks like a harddrive on fire and the other 2 temperatures have a blue downward arrow. Right now when the 42C temperature has a small checkmark were the hard drive image shows up. I dont know if that has to do with anything but I just wanted to make sure and say it just in case.

78C is a definite problem, and you need to fix this before you damage your machine. Max safe running temp for a laptop is usually around 60. Maybe you have a dead fan, or the air vents are blocked, or the heatsink is not properly attached, or ... etc.
