royal marriages

I have read in several AAR's quite some detail on happened royal marriages. Detail I never saw anywhere in the game(who married etc). Now I am aware that in the AAR's some people like to phantasize a bit and to be honest I do it as well while playing EU giving it the really large and historic scope (at least in my head). But now I've come across something I am wondering about - can you control another country through heritance in the game if you have a royal marriage with them? If so, how is the entire thing handled - meaning is it temporary, vassal-status or annexed or what. Or was it just vivid imagination of the one who wrote that?
Also I would like to know - is there a limit for royal marriages? Coz I played austria and expanded my territory quite a bit initially(through war, of course), then I married quite a lot to make my potential enemies at least let loose some stab if they attack me. But I already have 6 or 7 marriages, how many sons and daughter do I have?

Heritance is a random event: monarch of the country dies without any heirs and you are the one who get's control of the country. It's really rare event, though.


And no limit: people were like rabbits back then, and besides you don't have to marry your sons and daughters only. Sisters, brothers, uncles, any relatives will work.

Royal Marriages in the game are not necessarily the first and second in line to the throne but may also be 20th or lower. So the Duke of Gloucester gets betrothed to the second cousin to the King Louis XII of France. No chance of an inheritance there. As for who get's married each time it's basically non-specific.

As is the inheritance, this is a random event so gives a sort of after the event idea that the Royal marriage was rather important.

Bit of a problem if the above happens in an AAR and you then inherit the French throne. But the good AAR writer will create a nice little story about some terrible fire at the French court during a marriage or coronation ceremony etc etc

once i had royal marriage with every christian country in the world!
i was playing russia with the sole goal to get as many royal mariages as possible=)
