Hi guys, really need some help. I cannot play the game for more than 5 minutes before it crashes with a Runtime visual C++ error. My visual C and direct X are fully upto date. So is graphics, sound and everything else as far as I know. (I update my drivers every couple of weeks)
The errors are pretty random when they come, sometimes when going into a port, or even just while idley watching my fleet sale home.

Really need to fix this or I think im gunna have to get a refund and I really like this game too :(

PS I have the Steam version.

Cheers

It sounds like you are running the designers cut. Many people seem to be having this problem with it including me. My current game got to a point where I simply could not advance without crashing. Personally, I am going to roll back and remove the designers cut until there is a fix for this problem. I hate to do it because I like the changes.

HDS

Yes I have the Designers Cut. How do I roll it back?
I just ran it about 6 more times and it crashed every single time i tried to save my game, now I am guessing all the other "random" crashes were caused by the game trying to autosave.
I disabled all antivirus and firewall etc so nothing is blocking the game from saving. This is just totally unacceptable. Why would they sell a game that is impossible to play?

Ouch, I didn't realize Steam buyers had no way to get back to pre-DC. I bought EIC on DVD so I simply had to uninstall and reinstall without adding in the DC.

Hopefully we'll see a patch to fix this problem quickly.

HDS

Fed Up

I have spent several evenings trying to get this game to work... as I sense there is a pleasant game lurking in here. I have reloaded all my drivers, increashed swapfiles, switched off aero, reloaded the game and its various patches, and I have even tried a different pc.
I continually and consistantly get runtime crashes which loose everything. Sometimes just trying to save triggers the crash.
I sense the developers have given up on this game.... and so have I!

Sorry to hear about the problems you have with the game. We certainly haven't given up on anything: A few days ago we released a new patch. Among other things it fixes the "save triggers the crash" bug the original Designer's Cut had. Please try it before giving up.

I have installed this patch and I'm pleased to say :rolleyes:that it has solved my crash on save problem. It has also simplified buying goods and has got rid of that frustrating effect where you fight and sink a pirate ship only for the game to forget and immediately throw you into combat with it again. Clearly this is a big step forward and makes the game playable! :).
Thank you.

Having played the game with the new patch for a few days, I find that I am still having crashes. These predominantly occur at the end of battles. If I autoresolve (and suffer the vagaries of this) then all is fine- but if I fight it through (which is much more fun) it is liable to crash. One of my fleets ALWAYS crashes after a battle. I've tried different opponents and tried changing the ships in that fleet but to no avail.
