i could play rome 1.3, but when i downloaded vv from gamersgate and installed it. it did not work there was no desktop icon and when i found the icon and clicked it it took off for a sec. then crashes, then says there's a runtime error. i use xp and have updated the direct x, and tried redistributable runtime install but still no luck. any help out there

Lets try a complete reinstall. First move any valued save games elsewhere. Then uninstall the game, and then manually delete the game directory - this is important. Reinstall Rome - if you use Vista, it's best to choose a new directory like c:\games\rome instead of the suggested path. Then install VV over Rome.

any help with this one

That file seems to be showing some files are missing. Did you reinstall as I suggested? Perhaps you need to delete your copy of VV, download a fresh one from GG and start again.

Please run DXDIAG, Save All Info, and post dxdiag.txt here (first delete everything after the Sound Devices section so it will fit).
