1-1-1492 - 10-26-1498

Last game around, I was truly impressed by a flawless Swedish-Russian alliance that came after P-L over and over again. Since I can not appease everyone, I decided to go after P-L and buy off Sweden quickly. Not only I have a virtually permanent CB on P-L (Russian shields on 13 of their provinces), all of my allies can be of assistance against them.

Pre-start changes:
- naval and land maintenance to 50%
- all research on stability
- religion: Orthodox 50 / Catholic 100 / Moslem 0

1-1-1492: 10,000 of troops from Tver moved to Moscow

2-3-1492: Turkey DoWs Mameukes. 20,000 of Polish troops prance along my border, losing 199 to attrition.

3-1-1492: 20,000 of troops from Vladimir to Vologda (should have done it earlier).

3-23-1492: 40,041 more Poles materialize in Vorones. Early "get-the-Russian" start? 6,006 of them starve the same month.

5-3-1492: France allies P-L... actually they have been allied, it's just that another member joined the pack. The alliance now includes France, P-L, Britain (Brettany), Navarra, Savoy, Papal states, and Scotland.

5-23-1492: TO allies Prussia.

7-1-1492: A major war breaks out.

Russia2_01.gif

8-1-1492: Bohemia offers me RM. I agree. I offer Moldovia a RM, they agree.

10-1-1492: The Polish troops on my border (53,000-some) haven't moved an inch. Are they planning to defend England?

1-2-1493: Southern (Vorones) Polish corps is down to 29,000-some men. At least 12,000 have starved since I first saw the unit last March. Somewhere in the process, my stability reaches +3, and I switch to researching land technology.

1-3-1494: Fortress expansion initiated in Tula.

6-26-1494: Byzantium rallius up a huge alliance around itself. Tempted to see how are they doing, I offer RMs to Denmark and Byzantium, members of that alliance. Both are accepted. Byzantium has a nice-looking banner.

9-10-1494: Moldovia vassalizes Wallachia. How???

11-22-1494: Another major war starts:

Russia2_02.gif

1-1-1495: Three new leaders:

Russia2_03.gif

Russia2_04.gif

Russia2_05.gif

RM offer sent to Serbia and is accepted.

3-9-1495: Mameluks surrender to Turkey, losing 3 provinces.

9-1-1495: Land tech level 2 achieved.

10-27-1495: Danilo Kholmski dies.

1-2-1496: Fortress expansion initiated in Tver.

12-18-1496: The 20,000 men TO Corps in Ingermanland marches west. We are following them with interested looks. Have Danish troops landed in Eastern Europe?

3-1-1497: Land tech 3 achieved.

5-17-1497: Astrakhan and Golden Horde ally. TO builds more troops in Ingermanland.

7-5-1497: Wave of obscurantism random event - revolt risk +3 for 12 months. I change the religious settings to 60 Orthodox / 90 Catholic to counter it.

9-11-1497: Uzbeks DoW Persia. The newly built 7,000 Teutons march west out of my sight.

1-2-1498: Fortress expansion initiated in Karelia.

4-1-1498: Both Prussian provinces and Livonia are on fire. I am tempted to attack the Teutons, but I remember about P-L.

7-26-1498: Persia allies Astrakhan and Golden Horde.

9-15-1498: The Polish troops on my border march South-west, both the 19,000-strong Welikia and the 24,000-strong Vorones armies. They lost a total of 17,000 men in the snow as I watched over the last few years. I decide that there couldn't be a better moment - as declare war on Poland. All of my three allies follow suit. Of course, I am now at war with France, Poland, and a bunch of other minors.
- 20,000 men from Vologda moved to Novgorod
- 25,000 men from Novgorod moved to Tver
- 25,000 men from Moscow moved to Tula
Winter is coming so the forces are sent according to winter limits of the respective provinces. Land maintenance increased to 100%. Religion reset to Orthodox 50 / Catholic 100.

10-26-1498: Be right back, rebooting.

10-26-1498: The war is afoot:

The northern front:

Russia2_06.gif

The southern front:

Russia2_07.gif

12-1-1498: Crimean assault Bessarabia and attack the Polish fleet in Black sea. Ryazanian and Pskovian troops converge in Welikia. Polish army sieges Lipetsk.

1-11-1499: Uh oh:

Russia2_08.gif

2-3-1499: I think I know who gets the prize for being tenacious:

Russia2_09.gif

4-1-1499: The Poles are about to take Lipetsk. They have 83,000-some men left - that is out of 10,000+97,000+43,000 sent there earlier. I am moving troops around: 15,000 from Novgorod to Tver, 15,000 from Tver to Tula, 10,000 from Tver to Moscow.

4-22-1499: Bessarabia falls to Crimeans.

5-4-1499: 99,000 Russian men are sent to Lipetsk to face 76,000 Poles, about to be reinforced by 10,000 more. Fire phase one: Poles 10 Russians -1. Shock phase one: Poles 4 Russians 4.

6-28-1499: Losing 35,000 men, Russians retreat, but Poles are moving back as well, without taking the city. In the south, Crimeans take Krementjug and assault Donetsk. Pskovian/Ryazanian forces keep attacking Welikia.

8-1-1499: 20,000 men led by a Conquistador leader (Ivan Lyapun) dispatched to assist the siege of Welikia...

8-21-1499: ... just in time to take it. The Pskovian flag flies over the proud Polish city. The huge Polish army that left Lipetsk, now down to 64,000 men, disappears from my screen - heading west?

9-21-1499: Russian troops return to their winter quarters. 14,000-strong Ryazanian-Pskovian army besieges Vorones. 31,000-some Crimeans are still besieging Donetsk. Poltava rebels against the Polish crown.

10-17-1499: Uzbeks gain 2 provinces off Persia.

12-1-1499: Naval tech level 1 is researched. No changes on the fronts. 25,000 of Russians wait for the spring to siege Kursk.

1-1-1500: P-L takes back Bessarabia.

2-19-1500: Ryazan takes Vorones.

3-1-1500: 37,000-strong Polish army sieges Welikia.

4-1-1500: Trade tech level 2 researched. Ukraine rebels. 50,000 Russian troops launch at Welikia. This time we do not have cavalry superiority (which we had last time and so what?) but it's a forest anyway.

4-28-1500: Polish guns are deadly. Russian armies retreat, losing 25,000 and killing 16,000.

Russia2_10.gif

7-20-1500: The second battle of Welikia; Russians have been reinforced with 25,000 men.

10-2-1500: Crimeans own Bessarabia and Krementjug, assaulting Donetsk. Pskovian siege Ukraine.

10-20-1500: The third battle of Welikia. Eight days later, we win and return to winter quarters. Pskov takes Ukraine. Polish army is down to 3,700 men altogether, Crimea to Danzig, their proud artillery corps no longer existing. P-L's stability is 0.

1-1-1501: Infrastructure tech 2 researched. TO amasses 33,000 men on the Russian border and Sweden 29,000.

2-4-1501: Crimeans accept a separate peace with P-L, gaining Krementjug. We cheer, although we pretend to be upset.

3-1-1501: Ryazan takes Bogutjar.

4-18-1501: I besiege Kursks. The first troops since the beginning of the game are initiated - 6,000 infantry in Tula.

5-1-1501: Pskovians beat Poles near Mozyr.

10-1-1501: Two assaults of Kursk fail, but only 2,000 men remain in the garrison.

12-20-1501: After the third assault Kursk falls. It was a very, very costly siege. Repnin dies during the final assault.

1-1-1502: Pskov takes Bessarabia. 5,000 men and 10 guns purchased in Tula.

1-16-1502: Ryazan accepts a separate peace with P-L, gaining Vorones. Nice...

4-1-1502: Pskov besieges Donetsk. Mind you, they already control 3 cities in P-L territory.

4-16-1502: The fourth battle of Welikia. 22,000 of my cavalry wipe out 4,000 Polish footmen. I besiege Smolensk. Pskov signs a peace with P-L gaining Welikia.

7-28-1502: Monarch dies unexpectedly; non-historical regency begins. I hope people will forgive me if I wait until the end of this war to do another status report? :)

9-18-1502: Smolensk falls to my army. Poland rejects a peace treaty including Kursk only.

10-7-1502: P-L sues for peace offering Kursk. One day I will understand the AI... I hope. Needless to say I agree. The final result: I get 1 city, Pskov gets 1 city, Ryazan gets 1 city, Crimea gets 1 city. Not bad eh?
