I have had Ingermangland since the late 1400s and have expanded as far east as I can at this point (1560s-Siber was annexed). I cannot explore any further east as I do not have a conquistador/explorer.

About when can I expect mine to start showing up as Russia?

Is this hardcoded in?

I don't have random events selected, only historical for my current game. Will this effect my receiving explorers?

I received a random one in 1536 which was a boon to my game. I also received two in 1560 which I think were historical. After that I've gotten two others periodically.

You should be getting some once you enter a period where you get 4 settlers per year instead of 1. Not sure what that was called.

Stroganoff

Ok..so when do I know when Stroganoff has arrived on the scene?

I certainly don't recall any such announcement popping up. Do I simply split an existing army and choose him as a leader of it? Or do I have to have a navy actually in port (I have never bothered to build one)?

If it is the latter case, I will be really bummed.

Thank you for the quick replies to my earlier post.

He also makes a great meat and cream sauce dish, which goes well served over pasta or rice. :D

Thanks Again for All of Your Replies

Hmm...I will go through my leaders and see if he is in the pool or not.

I may have missed it as I was falling asleep at my keyboard last night during my current period of peaceful economic expansion :)

BTW, I have been able to keep my BB rating rather low. At one point Spains was as high as 20 compared to my high of 8. Mine is now down to 7 and will continue to decline as I slowly expand peacfully eastward. I have also began devoting some of my Ducats to diplomacy. However, all of the majors..and I mean ALL of them hate my guts :)

I hope I can keep them off of my back long enough to get to the pacific.

Time will tell...

The following list of Russian Conquistadors (Cossacks) and Explorers is from EU 1.08 and the IGC 1.7c files:
Name: Dates: Statistics:
Stroganov(C) 1560 - 1575 9/3/1/1/0
Hetman (C) 1565 - 1570 8/2/3/4/0
Mosalski (C) 1565 - 1570 9/3/1/1/0
Yermak (C) 1575 - 1600 8/5/6/6/0
Kolstov (C) 1580 - 1605 8/5/2/2/0
Beketov (C) 1630 - 1640 8/3/3/2/0
Mosquitin (C) 1630 - 1640 8/4/2/2/0
Dezhnev (E) 1635 - 1655 8/5/2/2/0
Poyarkov (C) 1640 - 1660 9/4/3/3/0
Khabarov (C) 1680 - 1690 8/4/4/4/0
Gagarin (C) 1700 - 1715 8/5/3/3/0
Chelyushkin (C) 1725 - 1745 9/5/2/3/0
Behring (E) 1725 - 1740 5/5/4/2/0
De Long (E) 1750 - 1770 6/3/2/2/0
Baranov (C) 1765 - 1790 8/5/4/4/0

C = Conquistador, E = Explorer
Stats are: Rank/Maneuver/Fire/Shock/Siege

You can also get 'random' Explorers: I got one as early as 1510 in Ingermannland. If you have Random Events on, it may include an earlier death than shown for some of the explorers, leader, conquistadors, or monarchs. Explorers show up automatically with a Warship, Conquistadors with 1000 troops. Note that some of the 'Conquistadors' are pretty darned good Commanders, like Yermak, Khabarov, or Baranov. If you don't have anything to explore with them, put them in charge of an army and kick some civilized butt!

I checked the leader board and sure enough there was the 'Strog' newly arrived in Moscow. It is now 1561 and I am building up a large army around him (so as to deal with attrition and get as far east as I can) as quickly as I can.

As for the BB rating you may very well be correct. However, both England and France have expanded into North America and yet their BB rating's are both 0 at the moment. I thought peaceful expansion through unknown territory was not weighted as highly as say, attacking an existing minor nation and annexing them or annexing them politically.

Oh well, it is all moot as Spain is the one to beat on at the moment :)

I plan on keeping my nose clean for quite some time.

Thanks to the poster with the list of explorers. I will make a note of those so I know when to expect them :)

I'm certainly no expert, but, IIRC, the Conquistadors do no have any ability as commanders in the civilised realms... their combat stats are for uncolonised areas. Within Europe, they have no ability as leaders beyond reducing attrition(?)...

Cheers!

Conquistadors

Ahhh... that would explain the surprise when I mentioned I had reached the Pacific coast in 1503. I got a conquistador in the first couple years in the IGC. Since he showed up at the same time as a comander or two, I assumed he was historical. Must have been a random event...

It is now 1520 and I have a colonial city and 4 trading posts on the Pacific in Siberia.

Definitely random. It happens a lot though that Russia gets a random one before 1560, in fact every time I played Russia I had already explored the whoel of Siberia before the first historical one arrived.
