Same copy protect problem with Kohan

I have already posted my system information in another post. But I thought is worthwhile to post this warning as a separate post. I experienced the exact same copy protect problem with Kohan - small white square in the middle of the screen and then after a few seconds a error message telling me a critical error has occurred.

Hope they fix the problem soon or I will be returning both games for a refund.

At first I thought the problem was the copy-protection and my DVD drive (Hitachi GD-5000). But a friend of mine has the exact same drive. I run Windows 2000 and he runs Windows 98. On his computer the game worked just fine. On mine, it won't start at all. This is with the exact same DVD drive with the exact same firmware revision. Looks like the copy-protection problem has more to do with Windows 2000 than the hardware.

There may be two issues going on here. One with specific drives and one with windows 2000. I am running windows 98 and I have the same problem as everyone with windows 2000 - I still think it has to do with the copy protect. It seems to be having trouble with specific drives and 2000.

I am running win2000 professional and have had no problem with the copy protection program. Yes I get the annoying white square, but after 20 seconds (an eternity in computer time) the games loads up just fine.

So I wouldn't say that everybody that has win2000 has this problem. It must reside somewhere else. Sorry guys
