The Issue

When I try to load this save file (attached) I get a warning message that it was made with an "unknown version" of the game.

(Version number and DLCs active included in screenshot, no mods running.)

If I then go on to load it the game opens on the 1st of January 1AD with a completely blank map.

Background
This game was an ironman save playing as France. I was unwittingly using cloud saving and recieved an error message late in the game that I had run out of cloud storage and the game was no longer saving. I quit out of the game to make more space but when I tried to load the game (by choosing "resume" on the launcher) I was greeted with the screen in the second screenshot. I tried to start the game normally and load it from the main menu but could not find it (all other saves were present). I disabled the cloud saving feature through Steam and moved all the remote saves from the Steam userdata folder to the Victoria 3 save games folder in My Documents. The save was visible but only loaded the screen above.

After verifying the game files the issue persisted. I uninstalled the game and deleted associated folders left on my computer (backing up my saves). I reisntalled the game. The issue persisted on the new install. I worried the save file might be empty but it seems to be the same size as other .v3 files.

Pain

This issue has broken the game since I have no autosaves to roll back to. This is mitigated somewhat by the fact I was close to finished anyway and that the issue is unlikely to repeat now that I have disabled cloud saving.

A Thank You For Your Time

Is only polite.

I am sorry that happened to you, but from your description it is clear that save file is corrupted beyond repair. Essentially it will be partially the old save game data and partially the new before it was interrupted by the error.

I suggest you make a new thread here in Bug Reports, on the topic that presumably the game should alert you to low storage before it commits to a save, whether in cloud or local disk, but didn't.

There are no autosaves for Ironman games, but what you can do in future is make a manual copy of that save file just before or after each play session, as a backup.

Sorry about that!
