I have a fix for your saved games. Open the file ending in .eug in any text editor, and look at the line on the first page that says Selectable= . You will see a long list of country tags, with many duplicates.

Delete them all except the one for the country you are playing and the save game loads fine.

Acrobat is not a text editor, you need to use Notepad or Wordpad. Just run one of those apps, do File Open and navigate to the saved game.

I used wordpad and opened the saved game. What I see is a lot
of small squares and a 1 then a few more small squares. then 2,
more squares, pavillion then more squares. Can you tell me what
this is?

you need to open the file with the EUG extension only, not the one call "autosave.EUG.CFG" but only the one "autosave.EUG" where "autosave" is the name of your save file.

Thank you the file came up. If I might ask you some more questions
What are the squares for in the other file for and what does eug
stand for?

eug, my guess would be EU Game.

the other file is the config file, the squares appears because notepad/wordpad doesn't recognize the format. I think it's a specific format for Paradox.
