Saved game won't load with Vista

I just installed HOI2/Doomsday (from Anthology) on a new PC, so hardware isn't relevent. I saved a game, but I can't highlight it to load it. Tried CNTRL; SHIFT; shutdown/reload; launching it from the
saved file (dumb I know). Anyway, it won't load.

Probably Vista, right? What do I need to do.

Yes it is Vista.

With all Vista users i recommend to NOT install it in the C:\program files folder.....

Solution should be

1. Turn off UAC. Here is how....

2. Find your saved games.... in Vista do a file search for *.eug and save them in a different location.

3. Uninstall HOI2 via the Programs and Features in the control panel.

4. Reinstall HOI2. Do not install it in the default location... put it somewhere like c:\games

5. Install the appropriate patch.

6. Restore your saved games into the save game folder of your new HOI2 installation.

You should be good to go.

Still can't open a saved game

I followed the instructions and still can't open a saved game. I also tried saving a new game. No luck. I added HOI2 to the DEP list too.

The one thing I didn't do was apply any HOI2 patches. I believe the new Anthology release has all the latest patches. Maybe that's not true. What patch might I possibly need? I've installed Doomsday; would that mean I'd need to uninstall/reinstall and apply the patch before the Doomsday install?

To start a save game.

first click on the savegame.

Then select country.

then click start.
