savegames won't load in 1.06...

Unmodded 1.06 on a fresh install.

The game freezes halfway through the load, while "reading scenario". I have to ctrl-alt-delete and close hoi.

This happens for my savegame, the autosave AND the oldautosave. The savegames are from march 1938 (the oldautosave should be from february)...

Any help on this?

Rather than ctrl-alt-del can you try to task-switch (tab). There is very likely an error message hidden behind the main HoI window. Post the text of the error message here, alternatively I can take a look at the save game if you like.

I'm not sure if i did it right, but the screen does not redraw, so the frozen hoi load screen blocks any underlying messages, if there are any. I used the alt-tab.

The windows error message is:

szAppName : HoI.exe szAppVer : 1.0.0.1 szModName : HoI.exe
szModVer : 1.0.0.1 offset : 0008de7d

Removed about ten invalid characters and a line-break that shouldn't be there. I've never had this problem occur myself but I know some others have reported it, not sure if it's a game, OS or hardware problem but basically the save didn't write 100%correctly.
 
I have had a similar problem with clean install of HOI and 1.06. The game will go to autosave and then it will completely lock up. The autosave is messed up so it won't load. So I use the oldautosave, works fine until I get to the end of the month and when it goes to the autosave it locks up again. I reload the oldautosave play through to about an hour before the end of the month and I make a fresh save and the game locks up again when it goes to autosave. This time I can't reload the oldautosave or the fresh save right before the error.

I was just about to take the last province to annex Australia and nearly finish off cleaning up the South Pacific so I can turn my attention to knocking off the Americans. Very frustrating, had an awesome game going =(
 
Corrupted File

I had this same problem occur and the corrupted file is the problem. I THINK the problem is that I went to save with the game running and an event occurred, new technology, unit arrival, etc, just as I started to save the game. The EASY fix is to pause the game and then save. This MAY not be it, but it is still good practice.
