I know we will have more detail with the infantry but I always dreamed of fielding entire mechanised division and finally having a use for half tracks and other transport because games like coh and men of war have never been able to show how they were used. In reality battle buses that were kept in the rear and at most giving support.

So anywho. Here is me with fingers crossed hoping the maps are just as big as red dragons if not bigger.

I would think that the maps would be as big as Wargame maps, if not bigger; this is considering that they want to make multiplayer "up to and including 10-versus-10 battles." In terms of unit size, I'm really not entirely sure. In terms of squads, we could likely see something historically relevant, perhaps pertinent to the nation being played.

You won't be fielding the whole ten thousand man division. The division is just the pool of units you build your battlegroup from. That battlegroup is what you use on the field.

RD in fact has a funny wrong scale difference between the distance numbers and the map/unit models , makes the game looks weird sometimes . This time seems Eugen has fixed the problem and the screenshots look quite real . So far the map scales are still unknown ......

Wargame maps can be so big because the game is set in a time period where every infantry unit can have a transport. WWII did not have that, not to mention the heavy use of man-propelled/towed weapons like AT guns. Bigger maps for this game wouldn't jive.

That, and it's already been pretty heavily implied that the scale of this game is slightly smaller than Wargame's.

Good point mister. This means we need big maps to accent the mobility of the mobile units... which was a major advantage of the time.

You mean we might have to have some actual attention span? Would not bother me.
If the maps become smaller and the scale smaller I may as well play a different game? There are tonnes of games that are of smaller scale. Eugen needs to stick to what it does best. The unique scale this engine brings.

A small scale reduction might be a good thing, if you think about it. We won't have helicopter transports, supersonic jets and fully motorized infantry forces. If you want to keep a dynamic experience, the scale HAS to go down to account for the lower movement speed of the average army.

At the same time, Normandy is a region with lots of broken and interesting terrain. So even though the scale might be smaller, the maps probably have far more little details that you can fight over. No more wheat fields that measure 5 square kilometres, instead we'll have hedges every 200 metres.

It could also make this game the same as every other RTS on the market. Also the graphics do not seem good enough for smaller scale.

Whether you like it or not, the scale is already set. Sometimes I have the feeling that people think developers announce a game with ingame screenshots even though the game is still only on paper...
Really, like half of the forum posts are wishful thinking for stuff that is already set in stone.

I'm not talking about reducing the scale to the level of MoW, but it needs to be small enough to make non-motorized infantry viable. I also don't necessarily agree with the second point. The graphics of the Wargame series were never bad, but the games had limited unit-terrain interaction (knocking over trees/fences, shell craters, etc) the effects were mediocre and the animations were rudimentary at best. I see no reason why these things couldn't be improved.
